With no offense meant towards the Brothers Ross, I am curious about this:

When you are MOLed out, need a change of scenery, etc., what other online communities do you visit?

I confess that this is my only internet haven. Every once in awhile, I've scanned another site, but the layouts give me headaches. I think Dave & Jaime have spoiled me....

- Check real estate (gsmls.com)
- Check news (myyahoo, cnn, usatoday)
- Cooking Light to figure out what is for dinner
- The Onion on Wednesdays
- petfinder.org on occasion even though no way am I getting another dog
- Launchcast is up most of the time streaming music
- Sometimes online window shopping at Gap, Old Navy, JCrew, Bluefly, etc.
- Amazon where I buy something almost weekly
- Used to go to MSH online until it went down

And occasionally I do some work too.

Used to go to Weight Watchers bulletin board but found it was frequented by a bunch of whiners (oh nooo I ate too much today what should I doooo) and enablers (it's ok, just do better tomorrow). One woman once complained about a new doctor telling her that her 7 year old was overweight and HAD to go on a diet. The woman wrote this long post about how offended she was by the dr. I posted that perhaps she should take his advice so her daughter didn't end up with the same weight problems that we all had. I mean, if a 7 year old is overweight, is it her fault? She's not the one who buys or prepares the food is she? I was called a b*tch by basically everyone on the site. That's when I stopped going there.

MOL Rocks!

I am on the devnull mailing list which mails out various things, notably the HTML of the Day. These are the hottest or coolest web pages that have just been published or discovered.

I am on a few mailing lists for single parents. I'm not a single parent any more, but they keep me on board as an honorary member, because we're friends. Also, many issues of being divorced are still relevant to me.

I'm on a mailing list for current and former Lucent employees. There is no limit to the allowed topics. Lucent is only one topic. It often turns to politics. Sorry to say, folks, the people there are more more incisive than they are here.

I'm on many mailing lists relevant to my profession.

Every day, I read Andrew Tobias's column. I try to read the NY Times editorial page every day. I don't read Dilbert every day, but when I fall behind, I make sure to catch up.

I keep my bookmarks on a web page so I can access it wherever I am: http://whatexit.org/~tommy/bookmarks.html

Tom,

What do you mean when you say that folks at Lucent are more "incisive" than the ones on MOL? I am genuinely curious.

Mustt, I guess I just learn more from those folks. They give me more to think about. The political board here is people saying a lot of the same things repeatedly.
