10. Ovaltine - what is with the freaking lumps? More ovaltine please!!!!!! I don't think so. 9. Bosco - yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck 8. Hersehey's Syrup. Too damn thick. The rim on the can gets cooties too easily. 7. Nesquik - this inconsistent performer always leaves you wanting less. 6. Chocolate Cow - canned star from the 1960s makes a fond reappearance on the Top Ten list. 5. Shop Rite Chocolate Milk - must be the lowfat stuff in the one gallon jug. Not bad. In fact, it's downright good. Yum. Not too chocolatey, not too thick. Just right. 4. Chocolate Silk. This 21st century bad boy is yummy and healthy! What gives? 3. Ubet. U BET! Damn that's good stuff. It's even better if you send away for the spout. 2. Yoo Hoo - Best canned drink ever made. One gulp and you need five more cans. Smooth, chocolatey and Yogi loves this stuff! 1. Are you ready? The absolute best chocolate stuff out there is........ Nesquik from Israel. I dunno how they make it over there but this stuff is positively atomic from a superfine chocolatey perspective. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm. This stuff blows away anything else on the market and puts our domestic Nesquik to shame. I think I'll make another glass right now. Damn that's good. |

mem, if you like your chocolate with a kick, Godiva makes a chocolate and white chocolate liqueurs. Or try this...equal parts Godiva liqueur (either one), Absolut or Stoli Vanilla, and creme de cacao (white or dark). If youd like, splash in some Bailey's or Chambord. |

Egg creams are waaaay better with U-bet - and a drop of vanilla extract. Yum. Sben - the Israeli Nesquick is from Switzerland (at least it used to be), and you're so right about the refined quality. Another real good one is Israeli/Swiss "Sucher" in the blue carton. |

I'd do it in a second, but I have no real business sense. There is a ready made clientele here, though, and it would be a big seller!!! We have a few decent restaurants, but no Mapleleaf. |

My vote goes to the frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity in NYC. The new Chantico drink at Starbucks is supposed to be the richest, most decadent hot chocolate ever. Haven't tried it yet, but it sounds promising. |

tulip: Correction: The Egg Cream require's Fox's U-Bet Syrup. No other will suffice. Source: Gem Spa, 1966, and currently: http://www.jrn.columbia.edu/studentwork/cns/2002-04-17/452.asp -s. BTW: Bosco Rocks! |

Egg Creams Rule!!!! U-Bet is essential. Best Egg Cream locations-- Dave's Luncheonette (corner of B'Way and Canal St.) had a walk-up window where you could get an eggcream for $.35 (reference from husband who says they closed in the mid 1980's.) Brooklyn Egg Cream Factory (Greenwood, Ave. near Ocean Parkway, Bkln.) Where I spent much time before moving to Maplewood. Don't know if they are still there. By the way, my husband is asking me to inquire if anyone still makes an Orange Julius. |

Dave's was legendary. They had the best egg creams and the best hot dogs. Katz's deli still makes kicking egg creams.

The Israel-produced Nesquik generally has no corn syrup, just sugar. That does make a difference. How is the Starbucks chocolate? I've seen the ads and been tempted. |

Everytime I hear the word "Bosco", I'm reminded of the old jingle which took my elementary school by a storm when I was a kid. Anyone else remember this? I hate Bosco It's made with TNT Mommy put some in my milk To try and poison me. But I fooled Mommy I put some in her tea And now there is no Mommy To try and poison me. |

Yeah, I used to sing that one too, Joan. But I still loved Bosco... -s. BTW: (A) I make my own version of an Orange Julius, using OJ, Non-fat Half&Half, apples sauce, and cinnamon. I call it an Apple Frapple. and (2) Starbucks makes a very good hot chocolate. |

Another vote for egg creams and my personal favorite is still Gem Spa at the corner of St Marks and 2nd. You can certainly do egg creams yourself but I agree U-Bet is needed and it would help if you had an old soda fountain. If an old soda fountain is not possible, you simply must used one of those old, tinted seltzer bottles. An egg cream with all the right ingrediants (and lessons on preparation if you need em) can always be had after a delicious cholesteral filled meal at Sammy's Roumanian. |

You know that new hot chocolate at Starbucks that costs almost $3 for a small cup? It is to die for. I want some right now. It has a stupid Starbucks name, which I decline to type or utter. Just ask for that new hot chocolate that comes in a small cup.

Had the best hot chocolate ever last night at Panera's (spelling) at the Essex Green mall. Hugh cup, about two inches of fresh whipped cream on top which was spritzed with chocolate syrup! Two cups were less than $5. Next time we'll skip the so-so, overly salted food and just cut to the hot chocolate.

Syd's in the Millburn Mall still has Egg Creams made with U-Bet listed on their menu. Have one along with the best hot dogs in NJ (even though they are a bit pricey, IMO)

sbenois, you forgot to mention Swiss Miss. I just had one. It would probably rank below your lowest. It is too sugary, and they seem to use vegetable oil, among the other crap. It's free at work, though, so I have about one per day. There's a place on Delancy St which serves both egg creams and knishes. |
