Got this email and, being the cynic I am, I went toi the NY Times archieves to verify it wasn't an urban myth. It ain't. by Peter Grose, Special to the New York Times -- Sept. 4, 1967 "WASHINGTON, Sept. 3-- United States officials were surprised and heartened today at the size of turnout in South Vietnam's presidential election despite a Vietcong terrorist campaign to disrupt the voting. "According to reports from Saigon, 83 per cent of the 5.85 million registered voters cast their ballots yesterday. Many of them risked reprisals threatened by the Vietcong. "The size of the popular vote and the inability of the Vietcong to destroy the election machinery were the two salient facts in a preliminary assessment of the nation election based on the incomplete returns reaching here. "A successful election has long been seen as the keystone in President Johnson's policy of encouraging the growth of constitutional processes in South Vietnam.

What's ridiculous about it? There are plenty of similarities and certainly plenty of differences as well. What's ridiculous is casting the entire subject aside. |

They also said the same thing during America's first elections. Should we compare that as well? |

LL, this is the third time that article has been posted. Still, I think it may have some validity, although I admire the people of Iraq who braved the terrorists to vote and hope that enough of the people of that country buy into the program to make a free and democratic Iraq a reality.

If you admire the brave Iraqi people Bobk, that means you're not a liberal. If you're a liberal you instead would be angry there wasn't more violence. |

Actually George Washington nearly lost that election when a group calling itself "Rowboat Veterans for Truth" claimed that he never crossed the Delaware. |

Actually recent scientific evidence has indicated birds are much smarter then originally thought. Just yesterday (I think it was the Times) there was an article about it. All that said, when we say birdbrain we're saying a person is just not that bright. So like I said the name fits. |

Birdbrain , is this you? My name is David Wren-Hardin, I’m 31 years old and am married with two children. Ellie is four years old, and Sam is a bit over one. I currently in live in New Jersey, and work in the Financial District of New York City as an options trader. I arrived there through the rather circuitious route of Chicago and Seattle. Before my current incarnation as a trader, I was a scientist, getting my Ph.D. in neurobiology from the University of Chicago in 1997. After a year of post-docing in Seattle studying bats, I was offered the chance to work on the trading floor and took it, draging my family across the country. I grew up in Cincinnati, moving there in 1975, and great year to become a baseball fan. The Reds have always been my favorite team, but I’m always hard pressed to choose my favorite player from the team. I played right field in Knothole Baseball (our Little League equivelant), so always liked Griffey, but also closely followed Dave Concepcion, Johnny Bench, and Pete Rose. I’m still a little bitter and conflicted about the whole Pete Rose thing, so can’t really list him as a favorite player anymore. Currently, I’m a big Barry Larkin fan, Ken Griffey Jr. fan (of course), and keep an eye on the White Sox from my years in Chicago. I got into APBA baseball after seeing a posting on Usenet for a computer league. I joined, and several years later joined the ABC league, which is currently my only league

Yeah, that's me, except for the being 31 part. Is that from a Google search, or do I have a stale web-page lurking in the shadows somewhere? -David "Hiding from the 10,000 eyes of Shub-Internet" Wren-Hardin -Show Them the Door. |

I don't see how any true Reds fan can be a fan of Griffey. Talk about a complete bust. |

Well, that was written several years ago. At the time it was a great trade for Cincy. I think Griffy could still contribute, but it probably needs to be on an AL team where he can DH.j -David "Ha! I hijacked your thread!" Wren-Hardin -Show Them the Door. |

The guy I like on the Reds is Adam Dunn. That guy will seriously go after Bonds 73 record in a few years. He's an animal. Sean Casey is excellent as well. However, no pitching means another long year for the Reds. |

I am just wondering how Birdbrain can trade options on the floor and post on MOL? Most floor people I know can't post much during the day. |

Lets just say that I'm currently exploring other, err..., options. Maybe I should look at http://www.nbc.com/nbc/The_Apprentice_3/open_call.shtml. I know why _I_ have lots of spare time to post right now, but what about the rest of you? What's your excuse? -David "Calling your boss" Wren-Hardin -Show Them the Door.

LL, this is the third time that article has been posted. Sorry, B.I try NOT to hang out in the Political Litterbox(too vicious even for me!) so I must of missed it. When I received the email this morning the wording was so similar to this weeks news that I just had to verify it on the Times website and then share.
