Seeing as how we live in an apartment and aren’t married (That’s where everyone gets their good china from). I raided my sisters China closet and put together a very impressive setting for the table. In 1 year of dating we have never sat at the dinner table, preferring to keep our asses on the couch. I have purchased a red table cloth, the China is white and all other accoutrements are Silver. Our Valentines Day is Sunday (my girlfriend works in Chicago Mon - Thurs). She will be visiting with friends in the late after noon and has been told to be home at 7 (She knows about the dinner but not the setting). Dinner: Salad Lobster bisque Filet mignon, covered with shrimp and Béarnaise sauce, wrapped in a puff pastry. Glazed Asparagus Something else I haven’t thought of yet Desert Music: Random: except for a special song…. Love Me Tender sung by Nora Jones. Followed by a gift certificate for 2 in home massages. What are you planning? |

Seriously, we'll be in DC visiting our newborn first nephew, so we won't get home until late Sun. night. Maybe we'll have a quickie around midnight, then Monday I'll try to make a dinner that the entire family will eat (besides mac & cheese.) If I get inspired, I'll write a poem for my husband (better be a good quickie) but expect nothing in return because I don't want to set myself up for disappointment. Thurs. we're packing the family up for a little Dude Ranch vacation, so I'll consider the trip our family Valentine's gift. I'll be most happy if my kids don't give me a hard time and everyone is happy on Valentine's Day. |

hey shh, are you going to take off any school days to do your vaca or are you sticking with the crazy BOE schedule? (I guess this is the beginning of my fact collecting on whether or not there will be bad attendance around the feb break) And as for v-d day, I always get the kids a present and chocolate and a card. Hubby gets, probably nothing, but he better get me some fleurs! |

Husband is on a business trip overseas, so I'll be working all day and then coming home and watching tv. Maybe I'll order some heart shaped pizza. |

I agree with shh. I'm dumping the hubby and coming to your place. Jeez, hope your girlfriend gets how lucky she is? Are you cooking it all yourself? Our plans? A belated (the following weekend) trip: three nights at a B&B in Lancaster, PA without kids! Message in our room after breakfast on Saturday. Gourmet dinner Saturday night. Hopefully, lots of rest and relaxation to help get me through the rest of this winter. |

Ffof, we're just using the days the kids are off from school. That's enough, a few days of fun for all. It's only 2 hours away, so it's fine. |

Brett: Seriously, you live with her already. Don't you think you're setting the bar a little high? Ask yourself how you're gonna keep it up in the future. And you're making all the dudes on this board look bad in the process. |

It falls on a work night, so the weekend before, we'll have an oh-so-romantic dinner at The Stage House in Scotch Plains. And I'll buy a five-lb. block of milk chocolate for her to bring to the office on Monday to make her co-workers jealous... |

Wow, how romantic, Brett, ( must be some relation to "Brett Butler") I'm hoping after several years of marriage, the special holiday just keeps getting Hotter, it's all in being surprised, not expecting, and feeling the love...sounds like a 70's song! |

I'm giving TS a new bathroom and she's giving me new window moldings. Some years we get into it, some we don't. I'm kind of with Robert L on the Hallmark aspects. Although, this year it's on a Monday, so it's prime for sending flowers to the office that will last all week.... I found a place online that overnights longstem roses with delivery for between $65 - $80, depending what you get. |

I know where you live, I'll see you Sunday. Your night sounds like a few I've had, there haven't been that many in the past few years, what with the kids, and this and that. One of my favorites was a special movie night, when my wife (before we got married) came home, I escorted her to the dining room for dinner, and after dinner I gave her a movie ticket and told her to come into the living room in a moment. When she came in I met her at the red velvet ropes and tore her ticket in half, escorted her pass the standees for the movies I had rented, to our antique theater seats, presented her with popcorn, chocolates, anthuriums, and cala lily's, then snuggled in for a sweet night....

I need to get through Fat Tuesday and Chinese New Years before I can pay any attention to Valentine's Day (although mass production of Valentines did commence after homework last night). As for a special dinner menu, nothing says "I care" more than pigs 'n' blankets!

What do guys want for Valentine's Day? The hubster always gets me my favorite gift of the year, gourmet chocolate (last year from Jaques Torres' shop in Brooklyn...holy cow it was good). Any thoughts on a cool gift? |

1. boxers with big hearts on them 2. flowers (why not?) 3. homemade Valentines from the kids 4. to get lucky 5. a good book or CD that sort of ties in to the day..."Sideways" or "High Fidelity" in the book department...maybe Al Green's or Marvin Gaye's Greatest Hits maybe for music (Im assuming your husband isnt 24). 6. a card that really fits and has a special handwritten sentiment added in that hits the spot 7. an event gift..tickets for something..live music or a show or a talk or a museum or a ballgame (Rutgers-Seton Hall womens basketball tomorrow night at Seton Hall if not already sold out) 8. to be able to sit around on the couch in his underwear watching Sportscenter, remote in one hand, beer in another, leaving all his stuff laying around on the floor. 9. a "get out of homework" pass what does anyone want from a gift....some sign of effort, creativity and thought process, I think. |

Thanks Hank! I am pretty sure #4 is what he wants. If both of us could stop coughing and sneezing long enough it might happen. Maybe I should stop at Victoria's Secret this weekend... #8 he does (ok not in his underwear) far too often in my mind. #3 we will work on, he would love that. #7 is an interesting one as well as long as I don't have to go. I don't want creativity for my gift, just chocolate. Although I admit he is even creative when he gets me chocolate. |

I got mine a pair of hideous boxer shorts from Drug fair ($4.99), bright red with little kissy lips all over them, along with a "American Presidents" coloring book, with stickers. Freeman's cracked lobster dinner at home. I always despised VD Day though. |

I won't give details because I don't want to spoil a surprise, but some lucky woman is going to get the best gift & I hope she realizes what her husband went thru for it: I was at Paintin the Plates on Sunday and a guy came in with his little one. He wanted to make a plate for mommy for VD. Watching him struggle with a squirmy, wiggly impatient child, putting hand prints of said child and trying to paint names on it while mumbling "daddy's no artist" was precious. If this is you next Monday, know that this was truly a thoughtful labor of love and that both your husband and child are adorable. Same for the brave mom who let her probably-too-young child pick out an object for daddy and proceed to dump an entire tube of paint on it.
