I am hopeful that the relatively successful Iraqi elections will lead us out of the Iraq situation. The outcome for Iraqis seems more promising than it has in the past. At least the existence of a political structure, albeit a weak and insufficiently inclusive one, gives people a place to start.

It is an error for those who oppose the war to hope for the worst. It is also an error to give the adminstration too much credit for their terrible planning, too small forces, and needlessly rushed timetable. Half the country will always see Bush as a feckless, lying propogandist, and the other half will see him as a genius of liberty and democracy. It's a shame that his deeply partisan instincts caused him to emerge as such an unpopular and divisive leader in such trying times.

themp,

I agree with some of what you say, but I disagree about this:

quote:

Half the country will always see Bush as a feckless, lying propogandist, and the other half will see him as a genius of liberty and democracy.

Actually, I'd guess it's closer to 25% of the country in either category. Many simply chose the lesser of two evils (on either side). Some thought that was Bush, some Kerry.
