Turns out AOL has a new promotion they aren't advertising. $10.99 a month if you bring your own access. Such we have Verizon DSL, we were able to get this offer. It gives you unlimited online time with 10 hours dial up if your bring your own cuts out on you.

Yep, they have been doing this for years, although I think it used to be cheaper.

JTA,

Where are you getting the 10.99 a month rate from?I pay $14.95 for BYOA and that is the rate that is published on AOL. Am I missing something? I wouldn't mind saving $3.96 a month!

If you don't use AOL much, you can pay $5 a month and pay by the hour when you exceed some limit. I don't remember what the limit is, but it's low. That's what my wife does, since she doesn't get much mail to her AOL account any more.

And of course the biggest savings come from not using AO-Hell at all.

If you don't use AOL much, you can pay $5 a month and pay by the hour

If you do that you can use AOL.com to send and receive e-mail for free (no hourly charges).

I don't understand how you can use AOL with Verizon DSL and save money. Don't you have to then pay for both Verizon DSL and AOL? Is Verizon providing the DSL service for free?

Oh, and you can also access your AOL mail over POP or IMAP with a standard mailer such as Outlook Express, Outlook, or Thunderbird. It's a well kept secret since they opened up this access, but it's nice, because you don't have to connect to the general AOL service, so you don't rack up hours.

Parkm and Oots -
Sorry I missed your posts the other day. The $10.99 rate is not online under the billing options. You have to call and ask for it. Supposedly it's only been offered a couple of weeks. I had been paying $14 something.

I found out about it when I called to cancel the trail account I set up to get the DVD Sharktales for %4.99.

You can control popups by using Firefox or Opera instead of Internet Explorer.
