I lost my dog in South Mtn. Reservation today (Sunday Feb. 13)

She still has her leash on and a pink collar. She is a black mutt, about 40 lbs and answers to Flups or Fluppity.

She got away from me about 3:00pm, on a slope between the deer pens and the yellow trail. It seemed as if she was heading straight down to the fire road and white trails.

If you find her, or catch a glimpse of a loose dog, please call 761-6960, 973-886-4966 or 201-618-2198. We have contacted the Maplewood, Millburn, and county police...they also have our information.

Flups is very food motivated and hopefully will respond to the word "cookies."

Please let us know if you have ANY information.
Thanks!

Thanks LL for explainging it to Amy and Mike. I forget not everyone knows what PL means.

I just called them and left a message offering to help. I have no idea where the 'slope' is or I'd got up there on my own.

Haven't realy been in the res since camping with the Scouts or when there were actually deer in the paddack.

Flups is home! We want to thank everyone for posting and calling us today. There were MANY "Flups sightings" all morning as she was trying to find her way home. She is now very wet and exhausted, but happily asleep in our bed. (Also known as Flup's Lair)

I'm so curious to know what she's been through. She no longer has her collar or leash on, and she is moving REALLY slow. There were sightings everywhere from the deer pens in S. Mtn., to Jefferson School, to Blimpy's by Columbia HS, and to South Orange Ave. She found her way all the way back to Oakview!

Again, thanks everyone for your immediate responses, phone calls, and simply for caring. It's been a great Valentine's Day gift!

Amy and Mike

She came home all by herself? Homing mechanisms are just amazing. Very happy for you. So she's not telling what went on? Harrumph!

Amy -

I'm so glad she's home. Those of us with pets who've "gone walkabout" alone know how upset you were. (BTW- I love that phrase - someone used it when I posted about our lost cat, who did come home a few long, frightening hours later).

They should be required to figure out a way to let us know what they were up to!

Anyway, you may want to take her to the vet to get checked out, especially if she's walking slow. Can't hurt & if she did injure herself, you can get it treated promptly.

Just an update...it's 8:15pm and Flups is still sprawled out in our bed..after two dinners (ok, and some spagetti). She's really happy to get love! I'm wondering if she's reflecting on her adventure and thinking..."Man, I'll never do that again!"

Hopefully....

I'm thinking Flups deserves some peanut butter and a belly rub.

Also probably a bath and a quick check up at the vet!

Amazing story and such a wonderfully happy ending.

I'm soooooo happy for you guys. It truly is a miracle.

You might want to consider giving flups a homing chip. Our dog came with one from the pound, and I think any vet can do the procedure. Small price for security if/when flups decides to make a break for it.

Our Grey rescue does it for $35. It might be a bit more at the vet.

I believe the cost of the microchip (it's the literally the size of a grain of rice and is "injected" between the shoulder blades) is very reasonable. I don't think it's much more than what you might pay for any vaccination. My dog got it when he was a puppy. He's never (if you can believe it) run off, but it's added peace of mind if--God forbid--he ever does.
