Would it have been too much to let the let the Lifetime Achievement Award winners go up on stage and take a bow? Jerry Lee Lewis doesn't deserve a bow? Willie Perkins? Led Zep? Jimmy Page, in attendance, who was not only their guitarist but is acknowledged to be THE SESSION GUITARIST in Britain in the 60's... What horsesh*t.

Two of my favorites, Mr. Springsteen and Mr. Earle, went head-to-head in the rock category, with Mr. Springsteen coming out on top. But, not to worry, Steve Earle won in the Contemporary Folk category for The Revolution Starts ... Now, proving that it was not a crappy album after all. Okay, it would have been nice to have won things like elections, but I guess it's a consolation prize ... |

I agree with Bono who said this year's Grammys were the best ever. Great show (other than Across the Universe which was embarrasing). My son is very good friends with Tift Merrit whose album "Tambourine" was nominated for best country album. |

I agree with your agreement with Bono. I didn't think "Across the Universe" was all that bad. I mentioned Brian Wilson earlier, because it was interesting to see him out there. And I couldn't help but think about the Beatles' continued connection to contemporary music when Nora Jones (who is Ravi Shankar's daughter) sang the "Jai Guru Deva Om" chorus of the song. |

Smile also won proving that the Grammys don't know more than Sbenois. (yeah, it is a crappy album) |

Okay, but can we at least agree that the Saab commercials, with the selections from "Tommy", make you kind of sad? |

Brian Wilson…was he on meds? No offense here, but, he certainly looked a bit dazed. And, "Across the Universe" was out-of-whack! Did they practice this tune before hitting the stage? Lifetime Achievement Awards deserved better. These honorees should’ve taken the stage and given due. How tacky! Otherwise, the performances were good.

The J-Lo Marc Anthony duet was like a bad latino soap opera and there is a reason J-Lo doesn't sing with Marc Anthony too often. Because next to him she sounds like cr*p. I was embarassed for the both of them. I liked the southern rock tribute though. |

If you are looking for good music or taste the grammys are never the place to look. Brian Wison is on MAJOR meds and is super talented. |

Smile a crappy album ?. Don't thinks so, if only for Good Vibrations it would be considered a classic. I realize some of the music seems a little dated (it was written in the 60's) but Brian Wilson was pushing boundries with vocal and orchestral arrangements in pop music. Anybody who used to make Paul McCartney sweat (in the Beatle days) certainly deserves a Grammy. I'm sure Brian Wislon was on meds, he has a lot of problems but the fact that he's now able to function on a somewhat normal basis is a triumph. |

I only caught parts of it; fortunately one of those parts was the kick- performance by Green Day. If Ray Charles hadn't died, "American Idiot" would have been album of the year. |

I almost puked when they performed Sweet Home Alabama. And Queen Latifah had to introduce them? They can take that song and shove it. Now I wish Neil Young had come out on stage with Crazy Horse and kicked their #$% |

There are great songs that got played to death until you couldn't stand the thought of them (e.g. Stairway to Heaven), and then there are songs that were awful to begin with and still got played to death. Sweet Home Alabama and Freebird fall into the latter category IMO. |

Agreed with most of above, plus these additions: Kanye West needs to have his head shrunk a bit. Nobody really cares what he did when he didn't win an American Music Award. He won the rap caqtegory -- once won by Will Smith -- and came on like he won Album of the Year. Learn from MC Hammer and give it a rest, bud. You just come up with some good hooks and that's all. Also, given Billy Jo's very conservative and dull acceptance speech "Punk can be dangerous AND fun!", I think he's at risk of losing that punk cred. Bono should choose his charitable participations more carefully. The "Across the Universe" bit was only good for its charity, not its quality. Also, is may just be me, but I can't remember a corporate sponsor being so thoroughly marketed in the name of charity. iTunes is a for-profit company with legitimate competitors. Charity or no charity, it was a PR bonanza for them and that smacks of opportunism, not charity. |

Billy Jo lost his street cred as a Punk years ago when Dookie came out. He can't even go back to his home town to play because he'll get booed off the stage. Hence the song "Good Riddance". Kayne West does need to have his head shrunk a bit but his song "Through the Wire" is pretty impressive considered his jaw was wired shut during the recording. |

The "street cred" of course is the notion that you're not a real punk if you're making money or have a major label deal. It's too bad that his hometown treats him that way; they're a good band and aren't afraid to let their music mature a bit. |

Well said, Sgt. Pepper. Green Day have been consistently great for a decade now. Street cred or not. 'American Idiot' deserves more attention than it is getting. |

Thanks Chris. I rarely like anything the first time I hear it; usually I have to listen to something a few times before I can form an opinion of it. "American Idiot" was an exception. The first time I heard a couple of the songs on the radio I thought "WOW." Then I picked up the CD and the whole thing impressed me the first time through it. It's great Bush-era, post-9/11 socio-political punk rock and then some. It might be the best album since "Nevermind," the last album that really mattered in my opinion. |
