"More fall out from last week's "Postcards From Buster" story. Carol Greenwald, producer of the series, was "disinvited" from speaking at a Department of Education conference. Also, PBS has announced that it will take its own internal look at the matter. And our new Secretary of Education, Margaret Spelling, has called for PBS to reimburse the Department of Education for the production costs of the episode." Can you believe this woman? Days into her position and she's outed herslf as a homophobic right-wing activist. She's apparently going to make darn sure that our public schools produce citizens as hateful and ignorant as she was apparently raised to be. And I understand PBS gets some money from the government, but this posturing is shameful if they really are more conservative than I had imagined them to be, and equally shameful if not. I've applied for jobs with PBS, and now I would be embarrassed to work there. Is PBS the "Boy Scouts" of public television, now outed as the Scouts were to be promoting conservative (read: ignorant and divisive) "values"? If you haven't been following the story, here's a primer: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A40188-2005Jan26.html

Especially since the show was funded to promote diversity. |

Did everyone catch this Spellings gem in today's NYTs? Ms. Spellings said Senator Orrin G. Hatch had invited her to Utah and she expressed eagerness to visit there. "These are Republicans," she said. "These are our people." http://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/14/politics/14educ.html
