Uke - you're probably right, I don't remember which house he lived in, and because I didn't know who he was until later I never asked him! I just thought of another brush with celebrity-ness because the Oscars are on tonight. I was staying in a hotel in Tampa situated on a man-made island and only accessible by car, which I didn't have for the day, so I was bored and trapped. I went down to the bar for lunch and started drinking with Virginia Madsen (up for best supporting actress tonight for "Sideways") We were happily buzzed when we noticed an ante room was setting up for a convention. At the entrance was a big table with rows of little brass name plates, so we each took one and pinned them on our shirts and went into the party to mingle. We thought we were the life of the party. We were the only ones who thought that. Conventioners chatted with us for about 3 seconds and skittered away. Finally an organizer explained we were at a Mensa singles mixer, and we were NOT welcome! We went back to the bar a bit wiser but not enough to play Mensa's raindeer games. |

According to a classmate of mine at college, after John Irving came and did a reading, he, um, er, did her. I always hoped that it wasn't true but most of her friends believed it. |

A good friend of mine at college ploinked Jodie Foster in the next room at a party I was attending. Does that count? |

I think she does work the other side but that didn't stop Hinckley and it wouldn't stop me. I think she's extraordinarily attractive. I saw her recently on TV at some tribute to Bobby DeNiro and she was in some sheer gossamer dress and I thought I'd just die. She has class as well as beauty. Keep your Jennifer Anistons and your J Lo's. As the song goes, "I wouldn't take her home to Mama, but Mama ain't home tonight." |

OK, not quite ploinking, and only b-list (or c+) celebrity, but close on both counts: The weekend before I left NYC for my freshman year in college, I made out -- relatively hot and heavy, if I recall correctly -- on a Stuyvesant Town rooftop with Alex Desert, an old classmate from junior high who went on to star in the movie Swingers and a number of television shows, including TV 101, The Heights (remember the theme song "How Do You Talk To An Angel?), and Ted Danson's latest, Becker. He always plays the "black guy with dreads" role, though in Becker he flexed his acting chops by playing the blind black guy with dreads instead. Also, in highschool I had a friend who dated -- and lost her virginity to -- Malcolm Jamal Warner, AKA Theo on the Cosby Show.

Went to a coporate dinner with Ashley Cooper and a couple of meetings with him. He was on The Apprentice last week, (taking George's place) with Trump in the Board Room. |

Nah. I was about 13 at the time and my parents took us some weekends to Bobby Rosengarden's pool in Great Neck (LI) where we lived. Bobby Rosengarden was the drummer on the Tonight show and the Dick Cavett show and a friend of my parents. One Sunday Alan Sherman was there and he was about the most obnoxious person I'd ever met. He had his rather slutty 15 year-old daughter with him and he was saying the most rude things you could imagine to me, about her, and teasing me. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore and I told him to go f*** himself. My parents thought it was very funny. Maybe it scarred me for life, maybe not. I met Bucky Pizzarelli there once or twice. |

I think Alan Sherman is the only celebrity I've told to go f*** himself. Although I *DID* spend a few minutes in the office at the Blue Note with Dizzy Gillespie once and he let me take some very close up pictures of him. He seemed like a real nice person. |

Near-relative ploinks: I once taught a class with Peter Boyle's sister, and she looked and spoke EXACTLY like he does. It was creepy, like it was really him in drag. My father owned an Army Navy store. One day I answered the phone and Walter Matthau was on the other end. Turns out Walter's brother was president of the Army and Surplus Retailer Association, and he sounded and looked exactly like Walter. His picture on the association's newsletter could have been a publicity photo for Walter--dead on look-alike. |

Lydia -- if I remember correctly my sister ploinked John Irving's son. I could never list everyone (famous) I have ploinked -- my husband would kill me. I can say that I have ploinked The Great Strawberry -- and I bore him a son. |

I kissed a porn star when she was in 8th grade (I was in ninth grade). Her name in the biz was Tara Monroe (not her real name - we both grew up around here so I don't want to give it away). I think she's retired and living w/ some rock star now. I kid you not. |

Getting shot down by a soon-to-be porn star, how depressing. And I thought I'd been rejected by a few girls who supposedly didn't have the word "no" in their vocabularies! Sorry dude, couldn't resist. |
