as a news producer maybe you can tell us. How many members of your organization have press passes issued under assumed names?

It's not as hard as you think to get press credentials. Heck look at the NY Times reporter.

And for the record, each and every Presidential event I've covered in my 15 years includes a pretty substantial physical search. This is more common then a serious background check, if in fact the outlet is considered legit in some way, shape of form. (Keep in mind the National Enquirer is considered legit)

As a matter of fact at my most recent event I stood there for 20 minutes while Ben Stein of all people received a head to toe search.

If an outlet that has received clearance chooses to send an individual to an event, there is no way the President's people can do anything to stop that person. This unless there's clear information the person is a threat. You have heard of freedom of the press, right?

And as McClellan said:, "Bush did not know who Mr. Guckert was. Mr. McClellan said that Mr. Guckert entered the White House under his real name and "like anyone else, showed that he was representing a news organization that published regularly, and so he was cleared two years ago to receive daily passes, just like many others are."

End of story and like I said if this is all the libs have, this is indeed very sad for them.

if McClellan knew this guy was named Guckert, why did he go along with the "Gannon" ruse?

This incident, along with the "journalists" who were paid to endorse Republican ideas, are clear examples of crossing the line into propaganda territory.

And frankly, if you're a journalist with 15 years experience and you don't see anything wrong with what Guckert/Gannon and the White House did (and you're not just playing devil's advocate here), it speaks volumes about the depths to which journalistic ethics in this country have sunk.

Not to worried about how Guckert's stunt will effect the media. Heck, you really think he influenced CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, FOX , etc. etc.

As I've said, it's an incident that happens from time to time. To call it propagana, as I've clearly pointed out is reaching big time for something not there.

Heck, imagine what you libs would have done if the President had banned this guy before he made his dopey comment.

You can't win when it comes to libs because they're all full of . That's why it's important that we keep beating them during the elections instead.

And it took a full 20 minutes to pat down Ben Stein? What did they do, a full cavity search while you stood there watching and waiting?

straw,
Just for my clarification, if planting one phony journalist as a shill in a press conference is no big deal, at what point does it become important? One ersatz questioner is ok, but 3 turns the entire press conference into a joke? Or is it 5? Or is it only if the faux reporters comprise a majority among the attendees? If so how many attendees do you need at a press conference to have a quorum?

I need to know this stuff, because if the Gannon/Guckert thing passes muster among other journalists like yourself, then it will probably continue in the future, not just with the Bush Administration, but others that follow.

As a consumer of news product, I need to be able to determine at what point presidntial news conferences and White House briefings become a complete sham.

as I said, now a non story..past tense. No longer a concern among Americans with common sense.

just something else libs can waste their times worrying about.

Stein kept setting off the wand...that they take seriously.

Question:

Why does it bother you libs so much that I make more money then you, have a superior job and live in a much nicer home?

Also, it seems to bother you libs that I happen to know some very famous and powerful people and those people I vote for usually get elected.

Is there some rule that you have to be a liberal half witted loser to post on MOL? Don't think so..

LIBS, DUMB, OUT OF TOUCH AND OVERWEIGHT.

Debby's just jealous because we used to have these huge bashes with a ton of VIP'S and never once invited her. As my wife used to say, if they saw her there they'd try to order a drink from her.
