We have the travel bug here in our family and would like to plan a trip across the pond.

Our kid is only three, but pretty flexible. So we don't need 24 hours a day of entertainment for her, but want a city and hotel that welcomes children.

London is an easy choice, except that hubby has been there a number of times and would prefer something new.

Can anyone recommend a particular city and a particular hotel?

Thanks!

I would highly reccommend Copenhagen. Its a beautiful old city with lots to do for all ages, especially in the summer. Check out this website: www.aok.dk/section/english

(Of course, being Danish and having lots of family there probably biases me a bit)

Phyllis,

We are in the exact same situation & are currently planning a trip to the south of France this Summer. We found a book "Take the Kids - South of France" and saw some great ideas on things to do with little kids.

Our family goes to Italy every summer and we love it! Our kids are 22, 21, 20 and 3. The villas are nice because they have a kitchen so you do not have to eat out all the time, we also get a villa that has a pool so the kids can swim and relax. We see small towns as well as big ones everyplace we go seems to have something for everyone. The people it Italy love the baby, and they are so nice and very accommodating ECT.
We have also been to France and we noticed that the French did not offer many accommodations one will need traveling with a baby. Such as a high chair when your out to dinner. Most of the French do not bring their children to dinner with them.

We also found it easier to communicate in Italy than in France.

Scandinavia is very family friendly, especially Norway and Sweden. Oslo, Bergen, Gothenburg, and Stockholm have a lot of activities for families with young children, and the politeness and care of the people for young children are exemplary. Added is the fact that, even if you don't speak Norwegian or Swedish, most Scandinavians are more than comfortable speaking English.

Besides, summer in Scandinavia, when the weather is good, is superb--- mild, sun doesn't go down until close to midnight from mid-June to mid-July, and everyone is outside and friendly.

I'm going to throw Amsterdam in the ring. I know everyone is thinking that is where the dope and sex is, but almost EVERYONE speaks English there. It's a walking city, that looks and feels like an old little village. You have the Anne Frank house, and the Van Gogh museum, beautiful outdoor parks and the canals, those fun street cars. You can rent a car and drive to Belgium and see the beautiful scenery. You can take a train to The Hague, and see the regal splendor. Other fun places Italy and Ireland, both of which are beautiful but their greatest assets are their friendly people.

El Grotto del Nonna (the house of my grandparents or something)-just past San Pietro. he makes the best vegetable soup from veggies from his garden. Does that wonderful guy still live with his mom?
