considering moving to M/SO from Morris County - any advice on how to evaluate the public school system? |

Visit the schools.
Talk to people who have children in the schools.
Talk to a few children who attend the schools.
Go to the New Jersey Department of Education's website and look up the test scores for the schools you're interested in. |

Since the SOMSD is very diverse in income and in race, one of its strengths imho, it is probably a good idea when reviewing the state statistics to click on the "details" and view the scores based on sex, special ed, race, etc. |

Go to some elementary school events. These are organized by the PTA and you can get the contact numbers from websites accessible through maplewoodonline.com. People are usually in a more relaxed mood, especially at the outdoor events in the Spring. Most of us would be happy to talk with you.
