Yes, the gifts just keep on giving from the self-righteous right. Two (more) cartoons are joining Spongebob as enemies of decency according to those wacky and wild fundamentalist Christians. First, we have the Simpsons, and the ridiculous "warning" Fox showed before last Sunday's episode about Marge's sister Patty coming out and interested in getting married. Said L BRENT BOZELL III, the president of the PARENTS TELEVISION COUNCIL: "At a time when the public mood is overwhelmingly against gay marriage, any show that promotes gay marriage is deliberately bucking the public mood." Then we have Shrek. From Americablog: Traditional Values Coalition is warning parents about the cross-dressing and transgender themes contained in the hit DreamWorks feature, now on DVD. "Shrek 2 is billed as harmless entertainment but contains subtle sexual messages," says the coalition, which describes itself as a grassroots inter-denominational lobby with more than 43,000 member churches. "Parents who are thinking about taking their children to see Shrek 2 may wish to consider the following." The article then proceeds to describe one of the characters, an "evil" bartender (voiced by Larry King) who is a male-to-female transgender in transition and who expresses a sexual desire for Prince Charming. In another identified scene, Shrek and Donkey need rescuing from a dungeon by Pinocchio and his nose, which is made to extend as an escape bridge by getting the wooden boy to lie about not wearing women's underwear.

Good thing Bobby's out there surfing the net, bringing these "critical issues" from the "religious right" to out attention. Thanks Bobby, and please continue to waste your "life" searching for this stuff. It's much appreciated. |

I remember Dan Quayle ranting and raving about the lifestyle of Murphy Brown--- then somebody had to remind him that she was a TV sitcom character. Now we've stepped even lower into the pool of the ridiculous--- the zex-obsessed pantheons of the religious right are taking shots at "cartoon characters." This s--t is too good to be true. |

It gets worse. PBS is airing a documentary that focuses on a company of the Eight Cavalary Regiment in Baghdad last November. One of the scenes involves a unit being ambushed and some of the soliders used bad language. PBS has censored the language from the documentary because of fear of the FCC. To be fair they also have a version available with the language left in, but inorder to show it the individual PBS stations have to hold PBS harmless from any enforcement action. I believe there was also a potential problem a couple of years ago when one of the networks showed "Saving Private Ryan". A number of affiliates didn't carry the movie for the same reason.

L. Brent Bozell III is a crackpot with (unfortunately) a major soapbox from which to launch his views. This is a guy who once accused The Simpsons of "liberal bias" because among other things, they'd made fun of entrepreneurs (Mr. Burns). |

WEB EXCLUSIVE By Andy Borowitz Newsweek Flintstones Are ‘Way Too Gay’ Fred and Barney should be banned because they are virtually inseparable, are never seen wearing pants and live together in the suggestively-named town of Bedrock, complains a conservative activist Feb. 8 - The ongoing campaign against alleged gay icons in animated cartoons continued today as a newly formed conservative group demanded that television stations stop broadcasting "The Flintstones" at once. Harland Devane, leader of the group Focus on the Flintstones, said at a press conference in Washington, D.C. today that his organization was issuing the demand because, "Quite simply, everything about 'The Flintstones' is way too gay." The conservative activist distributed a memo itemizing over 50 ways in which the self-styled "modern Stone Age family" series promotes homosexuality, but left little doubt that most of his concerns centered on the relationship between the two main characters, Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble. "Their relationship is more flagrantly homosexual than anything in Oliver Stone's 'Alexander,'" Devane said. He pointed out that Fred and Barney are virtually inseparable, are never seen wearing pants and live together in the suggestively-named town of Bedrock. He also noted that the two men work together at a quarry wearing hard hats and construction garb, an oblique reference to the construction worker in the classic disco band "The Village People." "Do I believe they are gay icons?" Mr. Devane said. "I abba-dabba-do." He added that Focus on the Flintstones' efforts will not stop at banning the cartoon series from U.S. television stations, telling reporters that the group is also "taking a close look" at Flintstone-related consumer products such as Flintstone vitamins and cereal. "We are very uncomfortable with Fruity Pebbles," he said. Elsewhere, President Bush announced a budget of $2.57 trillion, most of which will go to paying for last month's inauguration.

What does L. Brent Bozell III know about comedy anyway? His Media Research Center is about to host it's "Annual Gala and Media DisHonors Awards" which they bill as "The Most Humorous Night in Washington!" emceed by Cal Thomas, the well-known laugh-a-minute pundit. But wait - the yuks don't stop with Thomas. Nope, also on the bill as presenters are Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, and none other than L. Brent himself. OK - billing something as the most humorous night in Washington is indeed setting the bar pretty low, but if that's their idea of a bunch of comedy luminaries, count me out. After all, these are people who still crack up at Bill Clinton jokes from 1997. |

Thanks, Maple Man: What a assemblage of bloviating, fart-brained, self-inflated, self-righteous nincompoops. All in one place, all in one evening: all stupidity, all the time. Without the heavily scripted instructions these people get from their handlers, they couldn't find their way out of a hot pizza. Most of them, like Hannity, were disc jockeys and lackeys in local market radio before somebody handed them the brass ring and the script. |

With all of those conservative hacks in one place, doesn't Dennis Miller have to be in a secure undisclosed location somewhere? I mean, what's to stop some liberal terrorist from striking a blow for the left? |
