Just fills you with pride, doesn't it? Eleven local officials in northern New Jersey -- including three small-town mayors -- have been charged in a federal corruption sting. article |

you can look at it as discouraging that so many officials were engaging in corruption, or you can be encouraged that contractors and other citizens of NJ don't believe corruption should be business as usual. obviously a bunch of people went to the FBI and helped set up this sting. that's the way to stop corruption -- for business people and others to stand up and say this is not acceptable, and turn these guys in to law enforcement. |

How about a mandatory minimum of like 10 years for any elected or appointed county official convicted of corruption for personal gain? |

The Feds got rid of the Gambinos & that half gang from Bergen Co the DeCavwhatevers only to have the void filled in by these lowlifes . These guys were loan sharking " the platform of racketteering" I hope they rot in Rahway in GP. |

I have a house in Monmouth County. The county prosecutor said two (three) years ago when the Ocean Township mayor/Asbury Park business manager was indicted that Monmouth County was relatively corruption free. At that time, a lot of people knew differently. I don't care if Chris Christie has a political agenda or what. Without his perseverance, nothing would have been done to prosecute those guilty of corruption in N.J. Christie once said something like "I don't know what's wrong with you people in New Jersey - you just keep electing these people." He also said the first thing that has to be done is to get rid of the thinking that corruption exists and it's just the way things are. Sadly, that has been the feeling and philosophy in N.J. for far too long. That's how the politicians (and some non-politicians, e.g. Kushner) have been able to get away with it. It's just become too easy and accepted. |

Incidentally, the joke out on the street is Peter "see no evil" Harvey was too busy getting his late fees back from Blockbuster to go after the corrupt politicians. |

doublea is right on. The key here is corruption and the acceptance of it in New Jersey. Same with high taxes and multiple levels of government both at the county level and that each little nook of a community that gets it's own little government in the name of local control. This isn't a republican or democrat issue as both parties are playing the public for everything they can get out them. The parties are both parties of government and the opportunity that government presents them. The people of New Jersey just swallow it and continue to support the parties and apparatus that provides all this opportunity for being ripped off. And all the while, the stereotype of New Jersey accurately bumps along from one generation to another. |
