Alg - Our partial cans don't make it back into the fridge. Although, 1 tsp. of leftovers or 1/8 of a sandwich ("I-might-eat-it-later, but-I-never-actually-will") do. Soda cans are more annoying since I imagine you find out that they are open when you knock them over while reaching for something else. But, those aren't pet peeves. I just throw them out after a few days. On the rare occassion someone looks for it, my standard response is "oh, it was moldy". Today's Special Peeve: Managers who ask you to trace the origin of something that was finished two months ago and is now completely academic because it will not change or affect anything, just because "they want to know" when you are swamped with the work you didn't get done in the last two days because you were at the office until after 8 each night handling other emergency non-emergencies. This is theoretical, of course. But I'm just sayin', s'all. |

red That reminds me of Saturday mornings on LBI in the summer when the new renters drive the side streets (at about 7 mph) and stop at every block, look both ways, pause, pause again, then go to the next block and repeat... |

Sidewalks that aren't wide enough to accommodate side-by-side strollers, as well as single pedestrians. |

Great lyrics, Cathy! greenetree, never mind what speed people are going. If they are going more slowly than you, they should move over for you. Everyone can go at any speed in any lane as far as I'm concerned, as long as they move over when someone comes up from behind. The roads would be SO much more useful if people followed this rule, which is even in the lawbooks. |

Columbia high school students who walk in large groups in the middle of the street. Who then don't show any awareness of a car approaching. And then walk blithely into an intersection. We live on a street fairly near the high school which fairly often gets used as the world's widest sidewalk. Of course, they act as a natural "traffic calming" element. See posts on speeders down bucolic Maplewood lanes. What's going to happen is a convergence of two of my pet peeves ... speeders and the kids in the middle of the street, and then some legislator will come up with a law named after the kid who got hit ("Johnny's Law") that will either a) require us all to build 8 foot-wide sidewalks or b) allow for the immediate arrest and incarceration of any parent of a minor found walking in the middle of the street. And nobody will dare resist because it's "For the safety of our children!" I guess I have a pet peeve about fruitless legislation for political gain, which is then named after a child so no politican in their right mind would dare oppose it. And nail salons.

Commuters who park their car facing outward near Dunnell and Oakview so they don't have to drive all the way around the station when leaving. |

Carrie, In reference to your 1st pet peeve, I once hollered at a guy in the train station lot (on the town side) because he was eating in his car, opened the the door and put his trash on the ground below his seat. There was a trash can not 15 feet from where he was parked. I asked if he was from Maplewood, he said no and I asked him why he didn't show some (expletive) respect. I was surprised at how angry I got. So it's a pet peeve of mine as well. By the way he actually picked up his trash and went and threw it out. |

For me, it's the smokers who dump the contents of their car's ashtray on the street, just by the curb where they parked and discovered that they felt like doing a little cleaning up... Second are the people who think those thin cardboard pizza plates that hold their take-away slices can be dropped just about anywhere, even inches from a trash can... |

You people need to get back to the operative word "petty" here. For example, I greatly dislike houses with spotlights shining on them as if it were on a stage. I dislike this entirely out of proportion to its actual effect on my life, which is miniscule. Therefore it is truly a petty pet peeve, unlike some of these other complaints which are not petty at all -- I dare say some are downright reasonable and justified.

Mem I know who you mean..lol. I thought of them as soon as I saw it. My pet peeve is the detached and sometimes nasty people behind the counters/cash registers of many establishments in and around Mwood. Left turns into the parking spaces in the village. People arrogant enough to think they can just park their car anywhere and that its no ones business that they do it. Some woman pulled in front of Kings one day in a BEHEMOTH just as I was stepping into the crosswalk with my son and actually gave me grief. For God's sake she was illegally parking and blocking the crosswalk. Also the bi**h who continues to block my driveway in the mornings when she is dropping off her kid at Clinton. Is it so much to park a little farther down the road and walk a little. Might help the ole cardio vascular system. And imagine if I had to get out in a hurry, for what ever reason. Selfish + Lazy. There is lots of that when it comes to parking around this town. Radio stations that talk over the ends of songs. People who set my backyard on fire. thats about it for now. |

Argon...I would guess that those folks do that for security reasons. Brightly lit houses are less likely to be broken into than dark ones. Especially dark ones with lots of bushes and cover in front of the first floor windows. Thats the perfect hiding place for nasties. Oh and I forgot People who wont own up to their mistakes and find any excuse in the world other than "I made a mistake". Own your errors and fix them. |
