Alley: Try posting your resume and the type of job you are looking for in the Work section of this board. It can't hurt and one or more of us may have a lead for you. Good luck with the job hunt. |

recently it's been www.radionewfoundland.net, for good and authentic Celtic music from both sides of the Atlantic, and "hockey night in Canada." |

Hey Bill P. I have one little bitty listing there. About to get my second. You would not believe how covetous of a IMDB listing people in the lower and mid tier movie making are. It's like a grail, and with shorts they wont take em unless they are accepted into certain verifiable festivals. But you are right, almost anything you need to know about a movie is there.

Hey Innis, thanks for the link. My grandparents were Newfs, and my other grandparents were from New Brunswick (the one in Canada!) and that Grampy played the fiddle. (the fiddle itself passed down father-to-son from my great-great grandfather, who made it himself in a logging camp shortly after emigrating from Scotland - my cousin in New Hampshire now has it, and plays traditional music). Can't wait to check it out. Think I'll pass on "Hockey Night in Canada" though. |

Cathy: You're most welcome. There are also some interesting websites for Newfoundland music-makers and their playlists. I play a lot of Celtic music myself (native Irish here) and have traveled both to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland with my instrument, just to listen and hope to be invited to take part in pub sessions. It's very much like being in a pub in Eire or Scotland, but a little more genuine because of not being so well-known or commercially oriented. |

Cathy/Innisowen - my parents are both Maritimers (that's what we Canucks call anyone east of Quebec) and I went to university in NB. It seemed whenever the extended family would get together my father would just pick up a mouth organ or a banjo and amaze us with the music he could play - then it would go back in the closet until the next occasion - it seemed more like a trait than a talent that was learned or nurtured. |

Eliz: Well, there's a lot of local hockey going on in the provinces... and local games to be heard if you get the right web feed. My work the past 15 years has often kept me 4-5 days a week north of the border, from Toronto through Quebec and the Maritimes. I've been lucky enough to get invited into sessions in places like Baddeck in NS and in pubs and homes in St John's NF. People keep telling me about the old time "kitchen parties..." Eliz, were you at university in Moncton? NB is a great place, and as yet undiscovered by folks south of the border... |

Innes - UNB at Fredericton. A beautiful place. And yes NB is certainly undiscovered. I can't wait until my daughter is old enough and I plan to do a 2 week driving tour of NB and NS (and maybe a stop in PEI). We did it many times with my parents and loved it. |

I don't read it all that often, but I find Miss Manners' column to be really good reading. It's insightful and funny. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/style/columns/missmanners/ I think she writes a column thrice a week. Also fun, I think the Onion comes out every two weeks. http://www.theonion.com
