Perhaps. A friend of mine is a producer at a meteorology studio. From what they're getting, if nothing changes, New Jersey's getting slammed Monday night. |

I always stick with the Weather Channel forecasts. Unlike the TV stations, which give you the worst case scenario for their entire viewing area -- which don't forget, extends from Orange and Rockland Counties in NY, to Sussex in NJ, all the way to Montauk -- the Weather Channel gives you a Newark Airport forecast if you look up Maplewood: http://www.weather.com/weather/local/07040?lswe=07040&lwsa=WeatherLocalUndeclare d They're predicting 3-5, so that's what I would expect here. |

I always go to NOAA.gov. You plug in Maplewood, NJ (or any other town) and the forecasts seem the most accurate. I assume most commercial forecasters are getting their info from NOAA since NOAA has the instruments, including the weather satellites and balloons. Very cool website overall too. During hurricane season it was an often visited site by me and I'm sure countless others as they tracked the predicted path and velocity of the hurricanes. |

Imagine what would happen if we never had weather of any kind---un-weather, if you will. That would be a bore. |

Even Westher.com has the prediction up to six to ten inches. While I agree that the TV weather people try to make a dusting sound like the storm of the century, sometimes mistakes are made. On President's Day in 1980 or 1981 the officual forecast was for a couple of inches of snow, turning into rain as warm air moved up from the south. Unfortunately the warm air never made it this far north and we ended up with nearly 20 inches. A co-worker who lived in Basking Ridge spent something like 18 hours stuck on the train and a neighbor couldn't walk up the hill and ended up banging on someones door yelling, "gimme shelter". |

Nobody wants to cry wolf after that non-event a couple of years ago where they closed everything and we got a dusting. I've been keeping a pretty close eye on this (trying to figure out if I can legitimately call the boss tomorrow am and apologize profusely for my inability to make it into the city, then go back to bed with my hot chocolate) and with the mid-afternoon updates, everybody is increasing their forecasted accumulation. The weather weenies are having a field day as they've been salivating over 12"-18" inches or more since about Thursday... I suspect that the projected snowfall numbers are going to keep creeping up as the night goes on.

NJT just sent an alert that they will be cross honoring bus, train, and light rail tickets and passes tomorrow. Sounds like they expect us to get more than a dusting. |

Joan, I have just decided, as I read your post, to work at home tomorrow. I have a scary Dr's appt first thing in the morning anyway. Last Thurs took me 3 1/2 hrs to get home. Plus, for some reason, many drivers on the GSP are just not very good drivers - there are always accidents. Can your son work from home? |

I spoke with his teacher this morning, they were leaving pretty early and I think they'll be back by 12:30. They went to NJPAC and I think were going back stage/on stage! I'd love it if it's been resceduled -- he loves being on stage. |

Now that M/SO decided on early closing for today, I'm betting we don't get much snow at all. It is hard explaining to a Kindergartner why he doesn't have school (PM K) when there's no snow falling from the sky. |

Mem: Sorry the doctor's visit didn't go well. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Joe doesn't have the software to work from home but he promised to stop by early this morning to help dig us out. As it turned out the snowfall here was pretty minimal and there was hardly any accumulation at all in the city. Algebra: I hope your son is feeling better. |
