Aupposedly we're going to get a foot of snow tomorrow, Monday 27 February beginning at Noon. Any idea of how the schools will deal with this?

It was a nightmare trying to get from West Orange to South Orange this past Thursday at 5:15pm and it had only been snowing about an hour.

Take some personal time off, enjoy the morning in Maplewood and then help some neighbors clean their driveways or sidewalks.

Better yet, organize some young volunteers to help while you oversee.

Sounds like the aunt of 13 also has some built in volunteers.

This District didn't use any snow days. I would bet on school being closed Tuesday. I just heard we might get 14 " of Snow by the end of this storm. NOAA.

I know the District has all thier SNOW PLOWS ON!!
Those Guys do a great job!! Much better than ARAMARK.

This is for ESSEX County

SNOW WILL ARRIVE LATE MONDAY MORNING OR EARLY AFTERNOON... AND MAY BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES LATE MONDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. CURRENT INDICATIONS ARE THAT 8 TO 14 INCHES OF SNOW COULD FALL BY THE TIME THE SNOW TAPERS OFF LATE MONDAY NIGHT.

WINDS COULD ALSO BECOME STRONG DURING THE PERIOD OF HEAVIEST SNOWFALL... WITH CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF SNOW AND SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED VISIBILITIES

Figure school is closed tuesday :-)

What would be nice in the situation that seems to be unfolding would be if the schools had a procedure for declaring a half-day in advance. If they have to do an early closing in the usual way, it will be much more problematic (as we all know from the 9AM debacle a couple of years ago.) Given the forecast, I think it will be a mess by regular dismissal time and a 4-hour day would really make sense for Monday. But it would be nice to know that before heading out to school and work in the morning.

I am also betting on a closing for Tuesday if the storm is anything like what is predicted.

I remember the 9 am closing.

The BOE Maintenance Dept reports back to the Director of Buildings and Grounds about road conditions while plowing and salting. He then reports to the Business Office who decides when to close! The Maintenace crew has to work all day, then all night plowing, then all day tuesday. Talk about dedication. So do the Custodians. Hmmmm... so when everyone has the snow day off paid they have to work. That s%#ks!
Think I'll bring them coffee!!

Reflect-
I wasn't trying to get home from work last week. I had taken my friend's daughter for her horse back riding lesson. Already figure I won't be working tomorrow afternoon.

The little guys who live with me will happily clean off cars! The little buggers charged me $5 -EACH!!!

They love to supervise their dad with the snowblower. And try to see how many times they can hit him with snowballs!!!

Last week when it snowed they were throwing snowballs at the house! I thought to myself I could yell at them to stop, which of course would be responded to with some snowballs in my direction, or tell them if they want to throw snowballs at the house go right ahead. BUT if they break a window the money's coming out of thier piggy banks! That put a stop to the house getting hit!

With this type of bad weather predicted, in the past, I have seen parents come in at lunchtime and pick up & sign out their children early. (referring to elementary school, of course)

Watching the news this morning, I noticed that a lot of NJ schools had already scheduled early closings.

South Orange Maplewood finally decided to close early. Wouldn't know it from the website or any of the recordings for the district. They need to get with the program. Any bets on what will happen tomorrow? Think I'll plan on sleeping in. Looks like I'll be staying home with the nephews!

The early closing is posted on cancellations.com. When you hit the link on the district web page you get an error response but if you go to the cancellations.com website and put in zip code the info comes up. Info is in there as of about 1030am. I just got phone chain notification from MMS at about 1130am.

Yup, my son called from SOMS said there's a 12:30 PM dismissal.

I wish the district would've announce this earlier in the morning. It's such an inconvenience for those who have 2 working parents in the household.

Thank goodness for "good" neighbors. My son will get a ride home since I'm in NYC!
