Millie's Marinara is the only type of jarred tomato sauce that doesn't contain sugar.

When putting food into freezer bags, seal the bag most of the way, then squeeze the air out before sealing it completely. That will help your food last longer.

A Little Weird

by Odysseus

A little weirdness doesn't hurt. I took some time to be weird last night.

If a woman drops her pen on the street, the typical thing to do would be pick it up and hand it to her. She would say "Thanks" ("Oh, another loser").

But just a tiny bit of weirdness got me somewhere. I walked along the broken, dirty sidewalks when a woman dropped a ballpoint pen on the ground. I stopped and said,

"Hey, Woman! You dropped your stupid pen on the dirty sidewalk!"

She waited for me to pick it up for her.

"Did You hear me, lady? PICK UP THE FRICKING PEN!"

She was extremely startled. I was standing a few millimeters from the pen. She walked over, keeping eye contact, bent down to my foot, picked up the pen and started walking away. I quickly ran up behind her.

"No! No! No! I am NOT done with you yet! We're going to have a little chat over the telephone. Now give me your phone number!"

She laughed out loud for almost twenty seconds, gave me her number and walked away.

The number went to her workplace. I had no clue really about how to introduce myself. So I said "Hi... I'm the person who found your pen last night."

* LONG PAUSE *

"Oh my god! You're the lunatic! What's your name?"

So we had a convo. In the end I didn't propose a date because she was five years older than me and was working.

So it worked okay. Only problem is that I didn't get her home phone number.

Go find women who drop things on the ground. Anyway, it's fast, fun, and you get to be the lunatic, not the loser.

Use white vinegar in a spray bottle to help freshen pet areas. A few sprays and a mopping will do the trick, and vinegar won't harm the environment.

What am I doing this for?

Lemon and orange extract are just the thing to freshen up any room! You can dab some on a cotton ball, place in a bowl or small jar with lid (punch holes in it to let the fragrance out) and place around a room, closet or even in your automobile.

CAUTION: Extracts are concentrates that have a very high alcohol content so drink in moderation. Do not use around mem, small children or where pets may ingest them. Do not let the extract come in direct contact with any wood, painted surface, marble or granite.

Baby wipes are really good for cleaning spills off fabrics. Hmm, why don't I keep them around any more?

A weak vinegar solution is perfect for cleaning mirrors and windows. The first time you make up a bottle of vinegar window cleaner, add a drop of hand dishwashing liquid. This will cut any residue left from your prior window cleaners and avoid streaking.

After that, plain vinegar and water will work great, for a fraction of the cost of "blue window cleaner" and with far less harm to the environment.

To cure a serious case of hiccups, quickly swallow one teaspoon of sugar. Hiccups will stop almost immediately.

...and everyone knows about vegetable oil being just the thing for thirsty, dry wooden furniture, including antiques, or even older floorboards needing some polish.

WD 40 does a great job of cleaning silicone caulk off your hands.

To stop the hiccups, drink out of the "wrong" side of the glass.

Amonia is even better for cleaning glass.

Ammonia is a harsh chemical and a lot of people are sensitive to it (like me). I think it's also bad for the environment but I'm too lazy to look it up right now. :-)

Ammonia is basically fermented pee ... yuck.

If you need to thicken a cheese sauce, and you've run out of flour or cornstarch, try melting some cream cheese in the microwave with a little milk. Stir up once it's hot, add your grated cheese, and pour over your pasta or whatever.

(tried this in desparation last night - the noodles were already boiling, and I had no idea how to make the cheese sauce without a thickening agent. This produced a satisfactory result.).

Dr. Bronner's soap is great for cleaning a tub after a bath.

Actually, Dr. Bronner's is great for tons of stuff and it provides ample reading material for when you're letting the conditioner soak into your hair.

I just bouoght some of that. Curious as to what else you use it for!
I handwashed some wool sweaters with it, figured the peppermint would help to keep moths away. Also added some to my girls hairwashing to repel (hopefully) any critters.

To save saucy recipes (chili, marinara, etc.), pour extra sauce into large zip-loc bag. Squeeze out extra air to "flatten" and freeze bag FLAT on a cookie sheet in freezer. Once frozen, you have an "envelope" size bag of frozen sauced food. Saves lots of room. Can't take credit...saw it on one of the Food Network shows!
