Looks like we posted at the same time. (I even checked before clicking "post this message" to see if you were there first.)

I'm on the phone chain for MMS, and I didn't get a call today. I think I'm going to get myself off. This isn't working out well. |

Tom, The policy at MMS is not to activiate the Phone Chain when school is cancelled for the day. The chain is typically activiated only when an early dismissal is involved, as occurred on Monday. The only reason it was activated last Friday is that the district had not had an early dismissal in quite a few years. Please speak with your Phone Chain contact if you have any questions

Actually Parkbench, not entirely accurate. The phone chain IS activated at MMS when school is closed for the day IF it would not be apparent from the weather the night before. In other words, if the boiler failed overnight or there was some other reason why school couldn't be held that day, that wouldn't be apparent from any weather forecast and so a reasonable person would not think to check the innumerable other sources for school closings (e.g., TV, radio, internet). Since a noreaster is something we were expecting it made sense not to activate the chain since one would go check these other sources. Not a perfect system, but it makes sense imo even when it doesn't work perfectly. Also I think you meant the district hadn't had a delayed opening in years (Friday). And yes, the phone chain is activated during early (unplanned) dismissals. I'm on the tier of the phone chain above Tom. IOW, I call about 10 people who in turn call about 5 each. Even this morning, at 5:30 I received a call from someone in the lower tier to tell me that I didn't have to call her and that she made all her calls already. Oy vey, I didn't really need to hear that, since I was planning to sleep in since I knew the chain would not be activated. |

"Actually Parkbench, not entirely accurate. The phone chain IS activated at MMS when school is closed for the day IF it would not be apparent from the weather the night before." Thanks Wendy. I knew that. Unfortunately the words I used to explain the point didn't seem to be aware of that fact! |
