I had a reaction similar to Meandtheboys:

"Yes, there was some withdrawal, but there was also a certain sense of freedom in knowing I wasn't going to miss anything if I wasn't able to get back before 8:00--a feeling of breaking free of my addiction!"

Of course it would have been an entirely different story if there wasn't some assurance of a scheduled return. So, if that note about 8:00 PM hadn't been posted, my reaction might have been very different.

For some reason when I open IE the MOL is still offline but in Netscape it's fine. Why is that?

(Eliz: Shouldn't be happening. Try to close browser and restart it.)

Notification for future "offline-a-thons" (first on the net, I think):

MOL will not shut down again purposely for an extended time (eg, like the 8 hours today), but we may do hour-long "notifications" once a day at rotating times. This is to ensure people who only check in at certain times know about what's happening. We dislike being offline, too, but the fact is it works. We appreciate your support and understanding.

Dave - just fyi I opened and closed many times and also restarted computer and in IE it is still shut down w/message. Weird.

I mostly use Netscape but had IE open for a particular website and noticed it since MOL is my homepage...

eliz -

You've probably already done this, but try hitting the refresh button. For some reason my IE also went to the cached page from earlier today, even after I shut down/ restarted.

We will have tickets and fliers available on Saturday at Here's 2 the Arts for anyone interested.

Dave, I will also get tickets for you for those Molers who are using Pay-pal or are sending you donations direct...

Dave-
Maybe we could sign up for a notification list for when you do your rotating shut downs? Then at least we know and won't try to log on. Glad you're back and glad you got all the added support from people not knowing what was going on until you shut down.

What are the odds the Newa Wrecked will have a front page story about the lawsuits?

Good tactic. I think a lot of us, me included, have been meaning to send a donation, but hadn't gotten around to it. Well, with the additional time I had on my hands yesterday I finally got around to it. :-)

Hey Dave & Jamie-

Do you have an address where a person can mail a donation (obviously not cash)? I don't want to set up a Paypal account (I try not to use credit cards), but I still want to donate.

Thanks.

MOL being offline gave me the most productive hours at work since I found MOL.

That being said I missed it tremendously.

You guys are doing a GREAT job, keep it up.

You guys sent the whole community into a panic. I had to reassure some people that I spoke to (IRL) that it DID say you'd be back on at 8pm - I guess some people didn't scroll down that far.

Glad MOL's back, and I'll see you at Bunny's!

It is terrific to have such a following and be so popular. The pleasure this sight gives so many people is definately an indication that it is worthwhile and enjoyable. I was surprised to see you off line, but glad you are back, too. Good luck with your situation, hope they realize that it is a waste of their time and money to fight you guys, as what you did was not wrong. What nonsense people can create, at times.

The game of telephone was hot and heavy from 2pm to 3pm or so. I gat a call in the car from a fellow poster who had "heard" that some lawyer shut down MOL. After a few calls of my own, I was gald to find out the nature of the off-line-athon. Wheww..

What's up? I wasn't able to get MOL until about 1/2 hour ago today? Kept seeing that will be back after 8 message.
I have Comcast cable - which also has not produced a homepage connection since about the time MOL went down. Any connection?

There's def something funky - because my IE still shows it down and I've tried everything to clear it (btw I have OSX and IE 5.2.3).

Comcast did a major revision in their homepage yesterday. It worked for me at home this morning using both AOL and Mozilla. Is it possible that there may be a conectivity problem?

I have had no problem accessing MOL via Comcast, even with the major revision to the homepage (which I currently hate).

Sorry for the technical problems associated with our Offline-A-Thons. I don't know why IE behaves like that.
