OK, before I start, let me preface this post by saying this place is not super-close, it's in Plainfield BUT...

If you regularly go to Trader Joe's in Westfield, this produce market is only 5-10 minutes further down on North Ave. Sure, it's not the place to run to for a few onions and head of lettuce, but if you're doing your grocery shopping and want to buy all your produce for the week, give this place a try. Since my husband is vegetarian, it's perfect for me, and it's worth it. I filled my trunk with a dozen bags for less than $50.

And I mean it IS WORTH IT! The prices were really good - I bought beautiful red peppers for $.69/lb! That's not a typo - yes - .69 cents! I bought 5 pounds and I'm going to make my own roasted peppers tomorrow. Other prices were better than the grocery stores too, selection was good, and best of all, the produce was not the second-rate, past-its-prime produce you find in a lot of these kinds of markets. The guality is GREAT!

No flowers or fish, but they do have a very large selection of fresh bread, including these gigantic pitas, which I served with dinner tonight - YUM! I also got corn tamales, large flour tortillas, and mexican cheese. They have other interesting hispanic ingredients as well.

From Westfield, just head down North Ave. towards Plainfield. You'll go through Scotch Plains and Fanwood, the street will change names to South Ave., and you'll see the Times Farmers Market on your left. The sign is big and hard to miss.

If we can't have a produce market in town, at least it's good to know where to find a good one.
