In the Star Ledger this morning, I saw the only story scarier than the thought of ANOTHER Bush in 2008 - the prospect of Rice in 2008. Yikes! http://www.nj.com/news/ledger/index.ssf?/base/news-20/1109688694277190.xml |

Not at all. Though, right wing fanatics sure do. I guess this could be a redneck's worst nightmare: Hillary vs. Condi in 2008? |

Never happen. Presidential campaigns these days are all about electoral votes. (This is why Hillary is also not a serious contender.) What states would Rice carry that Bush didn't? Indeed, can she win all the states that Bush did? For example, would she be a lock to win in Texas?

Condi would be a lock to win every state Bush did. Her favorability and approval among GOP voters from the last election is off the charts. Rice would put Maryland and NJ into serious play, if she runs against anyone but Hillary, she'd put NY into play too. I don't think it'll happen, but I hope it will. |

Wel, before Dr. Rice runs against Hilary (or whomever), she first has to be nominated. And to do that, she first has to get past the conservatives who control her party: quote:No to President Rice Posted: February 22, 2005 1:00 a.m. Eastern ... There is just one problem: Rice is an absolutely terrible choice to be the next president of the United States. Don't get me wrong. I would love to see a strong woman run for the position. It would be exciting, historic. I would love to see a black American become president. I would especially love to see the Republicans nominate a candidate who would wipe the floor with Hillary Rodham Clinton, who I consider to be a truly dangerous psychopathic demagogue. But Rice is not the right woman or the right black person or the right candidate to beat Hillary. In my book, she is wholly disqualified. Why? Because of her position on abortion. In the interviews she has given about issues beyond foreign policy, Rice has described herself as a "pro-choice evangelical'' and "mildly pro-choice." To me, "pro-choice evangelical" is a spiritual oxymoron and "mildly pro-choice" sounds to me like the political version of "a little bit pregnant." ...

Anyone know her positions on social issues such as abortion? She used to be a Dem, so I don't think she's as far right as many of her opponents and supporters like to think. Of course, I support her because if I don't, I'm a racist. |

It won't matter. She could be NARAL's woman of the year, and given the choice between her and ANY dem, she'll wipe the floor with them, especially Hillary. Conservatives may be against abortion, but that is hardly a litmus test. Tough on terror, thats what we want. And most of us realize that ther is little that a president, ANY president, can do WRT abortion. The Security Moms are the ones that assured the Bush victory in the election... they aren't going anywhere, and they LOVE Condi. I still like Owens, an Owens-Rice or even Rice-Owens ticket will be unbeatable by the donkey crop being speculated on now. |

Well, I can't compete with your prefab, MSM-approved cliches, Michael. I do wish Condi had been tough on terror, given the warnings she received prior to 9/11. I also wonder how the media will handle her sexuality. |

Her incompetent handling of those warnings already got her promoted to Secretary of State, so you never know. |

Yeah, I do, and Edwards doesn't even have the slightest chance of making it to the general. You give Bubbas far to little credit. |

Same crap Dittoheads (and Straw) threw at Janet Reno, Hilary, etc. Wrong then, wrong now, irrelevant to their ability to be strong and wise leaders. Strong women, especially not obviously linked to a man, seem to threaten some people who then question their sexuality. |

cjc & Mark Fuhrman, I was just wondering if her apparent asexuality will be an issue. I have no idea whether she's straight, gay or bi, nor do I care. I didn't even consider it until her classic Freudian slip when she called Bush "my husband". |

I used to chuckle when the same dittoheads who called Hillary a lesbian also accused her of having a torrid affair with Vince Foster. |

I believe that Ms. Rice occasionally dates a former NFL player (Gene something) who was the Assistant Athletic Director at Stanford when she was Provost). Of course that could lead to a whole other problem for her; does she or doesn't she. In my opinion her chance of being on the GOP ticket are about the same as the proverbial snowballs chance in Hell. |

If condi runs under the repub ticket my mother-in-law will have a heart attack. No way can she choose between voting democrat or voting for a black woman. And I think you will find this is true with many conservatives. |
