"I'm 50, but already I'm turning into an old dog, with poor vision, dysplasia, achy knees, a weak back and flatulence..."

That's Anne Lamott on Salon. Why does she think everything about her life is so interesting? And someone should tell her the hair does not work.

Wait a minute...

See, now you've posted this message about her, and I'm wondering who the heck she is and trying to decide if I should go to salon and check it out.

So by publicly railing (ranting?) about her insignificance you've helped raise her up to a significant position!

You're helping perpetuate someone's celebrity. Stop it.

She's famous because she describes herself in ways that everyone has felt but never fully admitted to!

I only read her first book....the one about having her son.

She's a fabulous writer. If you don't like her, don't read her stuff.

I have decidedly mixed feelings about her, and I'm a regular Salon reader (I prefer Carey Tennis's advice column!).

I agree that what she admits to/writes about I can often relate to at 50. I agree that her hair doesn't work, but, hey, neither does lotsa people's and it seems like some kind of statement of affiliation.

For me, her politics are often a little too liberal, college town, post-hippiesh. In short, she reminds me of people I used to work with in a university town, who somehow think everyone who works in business (except for publishing, the internet and certain kinds of psychology) is alien. And, she reminds me of some people on MOL who seem kinda knee-jerk blue.

She's the only born-again Christian I enjoy reading. And she's one of very few mothers to admit publicly to the sheer drudgery involved in raising a child.
