I had a heartbreaking emergency a week before Christmas that, due to the obgligations of the holiday and my service to a local non-profit New Year's Eve celebration organization, I basically shrugged off and buried as "no big deal," so I slogged through that. January brought on an unexpected, obfuscated confrontation with an MOL regular with whom I'd previously enjoyed a pretty good relationship online that (I thought) was cemented in a RL friendship. Who knew my father's remarriage after 8 years as a widower (ok, it was in Sept. 03 but it really hit home when I tried to connect with him after the pre-Christmas incident; he still doesn't know) would make all this culminate in a giant funk (okay - depression) that I never believed could happen to me. Not me!! Lots of other stuff contributed - work stress is huge, worry about my family, my love life, missing my mother, crap - even the election (take that and run w/it, WARTS!). Luckily, I have a wonderful therapist who acts as my "worry doctor" and a great physician that understands how important sleep is to general mental health. My therapist was there for me after several years of no contact, and I cannot stress how helpful it is to talk to someone objective about the world. My wonderful doctor prescribed Ambien which, though I was nervous at first, has proven to be an incredibly effective sleep aid that I now pretty much can ignore just 'cause I know it's there. So, that was February, and while I'm tentatively posting again, I do find myself shying away from it. I'm very, fiercely loyal to South Orange, and that's a tough forum. Sometimes it's just the difference between calling something "slightly complicated" and being told it's "not exactly what I'd call complicated" that makes me regret hitting Post this Message. Frankly, I hesitate every time I post anymore -- more often than not I hit Alt+< after posting a long, detailed discourse. Which means if you're reading this, it's a freaking miracle!

Greentree- Funny you should mention the Christmas decorations! I went to my brother's yesterday and they still have their outside Christmas lights and decortaions up! I told my niece she needs to tell daddy Christmas is over! My brother called me later and said he's getting a jump on next year. Glad they don't live on my street! lol |

Bets, Keep your chin up. Things always work out in the end. Try not to take life so seriously. Remember Boca... (Remember Boca refers to a time 2 years ago when the two biggest pains in the in my life, My Father and my old neighbor both moved there within a matter of a few months of each other!) sorry Debby, couldn't resist! Anyway, Bets, stay positive and good things will happen..

Bets: I'm so glad you felt comfortable enough to share your problems with us and so sorry that you had to live through them. I hope things improve for you very soon. It seems like quite a few regular posters to MOL have had personal problems lately. Perhaps that has contributed to things being so quiet here just now. |

Me too, Bets. Thanks for sharing your posting with us. Don't shy away, as MOLERS we're friends! Wishing you the continued strength that allowed you to post your message or should I say miracle. Good Luck! As S. says, spring is almost here and with the change in season, "a little more warmth and happiness will come your way". |

Thanks for all the good wishes. Spring is on the way - I saw my first robin on Sunday! Dave & Jamie, we're pulling for you and will see you at Bs next month. Even changed our vacation to the next week so we could make it! (ok, maybe it was just a better deal the next week, but it sounds good, doesn't it?) |

"oops, I didn't realize Library lady started the thread. I like Library lady, so I take back my boring comment." Said by the Straw guy. So that must mean anytime he says 'boring' and doesn't take it back (I feel like I'm in elementary school with the take backs, btw) it must be a personal attack since it means he doesn't like someone. How's that for logic???? Dave? please advise, we so rely on you as the ultimate arbiter of attacks, good taste and all in-between. I'm still waiting for my proclamation, btw.

Wendy, A personal attack would be if I said for instance, "Wendy is dumb"...That would be a personal attack. Saying I like someone is not a personal attack. you see the difference? |

Saying a thread is boring isn't a personal attack either. It is saying the thread is boring. The person who started the thread may not be boring at all. I think it is boring to say that a thread is boring, but I will stand up for your right to be boring, be bored, express your boredom to the point that I am bored, boring, and you are bored by my explaining how being bored and/or boring is OK. You may then express that what you are bored, but you may not call me boring or I'll get all whiney and ask Dave to ban you, which you may find especially boring. Does that clear things up? Or am I boring you? |

Maybe a toss in the hay with the Strawman could do the trick.. Are you including the "manure" in that hay? Cuz it's gonna get "funky" up in there! suddenly this thread is not so boring after all |
