Within the next two weeks the BOE will meet in private session to review Super H's performance over the last year. Those residents with comments can post here or contact their most communicative BOE member.

Recall that it was at last year's review that Super H received orders to reinterpret Policy 2270 - Religion in the Schools.

although Im sure many or all the BOE members read this board or are at least cognizant of the commentary here, dont rely simply on posting your feedback here..make the effort to contact a BOE member or members directly, using your real name rather than an alias here...stand behind what you say and feel..give your comments more credibility.

how could he allow the director of transportation to be let go in administrative cuts? Why not make the BA EARN her salary and dismiss her assistant?

Nice try, Hank. Don't you ever feel like you're trying to reason with a bunch of squawking seals?

As you know, the louder the squawking on MOL, the more Fringe gets off. Don't try to get between the man and his pleasures.

Be that as it may, the suggestion to contact BOE members by phone or snail mail and communicate our serious concerns directly to them is a good one and one those of us who are not satisfied with things as they are need to do (or else shut up when things don't change) - let's stop griping and start talking about what direction we would like to see our District take!

"the suggestion to contact BOE members by phone or snail mail and communicate our serious concerns directly to them is a good one"

I agree. My point is Fringe would prefer that people squawk away on MOL instead (notice his order of suggestion in his post) so that he can hold court and get his kicks.

xavier,

he also seems to prefer raising questions rather than offering answers or ideas.

People - Please do not worry. By law, they have to give Super H one years notice. This is why they only gave him a three year contract. He will not be back, nor will Davenport, after his term.

Gregg, the link didn't work for some reason, but I do already give quite a lot of time (in various capacities) to our school system.

Link works fine for me. Thanks Gregg. cody, I also give and have given quite a lot of time to our schood system as well. I think the reason for the link is to consider being on the strategic planning committee. That, more than any volunteer effort, would give people a chance to "talk about what direction we would like to see our District take."

Cody: I wasn't trying to say anyone hasn't given of their time. Simply that the strategic planning effort was meant to create a forum for exactly that dialogue and there is now another opportunity to volunteer.

No problem, Gregg. And the link does work now - from within aol. Didn't work when I was using Internet Explorer. Who knows why. I hope lots of people take the time to get involved with the school system, not only those with kids currently in the system. I would love to see a more collaborative model rather than the adversarial one we seem to have gotten ourselves into.

Another thought: any chance of having a CHS student sit on the Board of Ed. as a non-voting, advisory member? Perhaps the Student Council could be used in this manner, but it would give the high school students a voice on the Board and give the Board members a window into the reality of daily life in the high school.

I don't know what would be involved with adding a student to the Board, but we have been intentional in involving student voice in the strategic planning process. Two students from CHS have participated in the steering committee and three participated in the planning council--actively.

Some of my own work with the National High School Alliance (hsalliance.org) has helped ensure a student voice in the national dialogue on high school redesign. Modeling that engagement in our district is something we have begun to try and do.

The only way I know to move away from adversarial relationships to more collaborative models is through more active, ongoing dialogue. I do believe we are getting better at it.

I hope so, Gregg. I must say that if we are, you've been a big part of it. When I've been at BOE meetings, you have always seemed to be looking at the community members who speak up, listening to them and really hearing what they are saying. It does make a big difference. Thank you.

Super H must be let go at the end of his contract. He has done very little that I can view in a positive light for this school district. He has managed to alientate parents, teachers, and students. The schools' rankings have fallen while taxes have skyrocketed. He has also managed to bring an incredible amount of negative publicity and attention to our towns/schools. His mishandling of the peanut snack incident and the holiday music fiasco are an embarrasment.

Let's get some new leadership. If the BOE even thinks about renewing his contract it will be a dark day for Maplewood/South Orange.
