you should contact Maplewood Township Committee member David Huemer. He was on the show 8-10 years ago and did very well. I'm sure he'd be happy to help you out. He's in the book. Ask him how many sides there are to home plate. |

I tried out in Atlantic City years ago in Resorts- there were hundreds of people there - you waited in line outside a ballroom- then they ushered in about 100 at a time and you had 4 minutes to answer 10 questions- you turned it in and had to wait four hours(!) before you got your results. I didn't bother to wait- Albert Einstein couldn't have answered all those questions. They were way harder than the show. Good Luck! |

If I'm not mistaken, our very own Library Lady was also a contestant. |

I tried out in Atlantic City around 15 years ago. As previously noted, the questions are a lot harder than those on the show. I missed the cutoff to go to the next level by one question (I got 6 out of 10 right, and you had to get 7 right to stay in the running). I think I only had to wait a couple of hours for the results though. |

Debby, Good Luck. Yes, Library Lady was a contestant on Jepordy. My friends tell me I should tryout as well, but I don't do well under pressure.

I was on Jeopardy in June 2003 (won 17K). My audition was held at the Waldorf in May 2002. It was a 50 question test covering the usual array of J! topics-Geography, Politics, Literature, TV, Art, Music, Movies etc. If I recall correctly, you had to get at least 40 right. The questions are read by Alex by way of videotape, and you have about 10 seconds to write down your answer before the next question is read. If you get the requisite number of questions right (8 out of 100 people at my session made the cut), you move on to an audition phase where you play a mock game against the other people who qualified, get asked a few silly questions by the contestant coordinators, and get a Polaroid taken of yourself. Then you go home and wait to be called-I waited nine months! Best of luck to you! |

I posted a long repsonse to this at 6 am but I guess my lack of coffee made me forget to hit the final post. Oh well, (GOsh, Edited to say that I just saw the thread under Tech Support) Canismajor is correct. I was on 15 years ago and it was basically the same. The very small number of us who passed the first test was winnowed even further when we played a "pretend" game of Jeopardy. Of the 21 that passed initally, we were left with 11. This was on May 30th, they told us if we didn't hear from them by January to try again. The called me the first day of Sept. Questions? Please PL. I LOVE to talk about my 15 minutes (really 30) of fame. |

Ok, a fundraiser idea for MOL> I challenge David Huemer, Canismajor (and anyone else) to a championship round of JEOPARDY!. Sben could be Alex or Dave the moderator could moderate. Posters could place bets with the winnings going to pay for defense of the lawsuit. To be held at the fundraiser?? Let me know. |

Sounds fun......count me in! It would be cool if there could be an MOL category....."This ubiquitous, controversial MOL poster derives his username from the only fruit to have its seeds on the outside" |

I love it! But.. back to Debby's posting....play video games. An acquaintence(who knows everything - and will be the first to tell you so)was a contestant..he won the first day, but in the second, although he knew the answers, another player beat him to the button.. ended up that the guy was a huge video game fanatic. |

Definitely play the Jeopardy computer games. The 2002 and 2003 versions came with a sample contestant exam which was very representative of what the real exam was like. Also, a book came out last year titled This Is Jeopardy by Ray Richmond that has a sample contestant exam in it. I don't think it's a test you can study for. Your brain is either wired to retain trivia or it's not. The "studying" I did was more or less refreshing my memory of things I already knew.

I was never a contestant but I did attend a taping session in December 1992 and have the pictures to prove it. a friend was on the tech crew back then. I had to pretend I did not know anyone because if I ever wanted to be a contestant, there had to be no connection. the atomosphere was much more low key that what you see in the final episode. After everyone left, I got to run up on stage and have my picture taken at a contestant station AND at Alex Tebeck's host station. (We made sure HE left! ) Really cool how it's all done from a technical standpoint. Alex T. is very different off the air. As soon as they say action, he gooes into tv show host mode. If he misprounces something, which happens rarely, then they stop taping, bring down a mike, he re-says the phrase and then it is edited into the show. PL me if you want to see the pictures-you also get to see yours truly in my "better days" |

Thanks, everyone. Now I have way less confidence than when I first posted! But really, thank you - I wasn't even thinking of study tips - it was more what to expect. And now I know! The one thing I'm disappointed about is how long you wait to get called - I thought I'd know that day. |

Does anyone remember David Javerbaum winning it all. I think it was in 1991. He was one of the smartest guys ever. |

The South Orange-Maplewood Education Foundation is having a Jeopardy-style fundraiser on Sunday, April 17th. All you Jeopardy buffs should get together and form a team! Details are here. |

Actually David didn't win. I was on Jeopardy! the following year and he was very well remembered there by the Jeopardy!staff despite the fact that he wasn't the big winner. |
