Update: I've found out the security cameras at CHS are not monitored - the tapes are only reviewed if a "problem" arises and they need to be viewed by the Police, Fire Dept, BOE or adminstration. The main console is kept in the Maintenance Building in Bill Kyles office. The system is capable of being "upgraded" to use student's ID's for immediate identification, but would need some additional hardware installed. Again, I'm not a security specialist, but it seems to me that this system isn't being fully utilized...

True, but consider the cost of someone watching the monitors all day. Who can pay that? |

I think you've got something there....The Village Cam. Watch your teens on MOL as they navigate through school. I can see it now . . . my kid mouthing to the camera..."Mom, I forgot my homework, can you bring it down." I think we have better things to spend our few $ on...

Heck with Channel 35, put the cameras on the web. It's easy and inexpensive -- routine technology these days. Then, when you're feeling too lazy to actually write a post on MOL, you could just stare at the kids wandering around CHS.

And, even better, putting it on channel 35 should open the BOE to yet another set of fun lawsuits... |

I received the following letter from Richard Codey in yesterday's mail delivery. I'm not sure if it is part of a mass mailing, but thought it might be of some interest to members of the community: Dear Friend: As you may know, I have recently outlined a State budget proposal that is the most fiscally conservative in recent history. Any hard working family will tell you: you simply cannot spend more money than you earn. That is why we had to assess out priorities and make some very difficult decisions. I have proposed the largest spending cut in tState history and ccreated a budget that is honest and lean - but not inhmane. I will not balance this budget on the backs of our most vulnerable residents - our obligations to our seniors and our children will be met. I know there is nothing more important to the future of New Jersey than our children. As parents, we do all we can to keep them safe - we worry about them every time they leave the house and pray that they return unharmed. As Governor, I will do everything in my power to protect our children. If there is one area we must focus on, it is safety within our schools. I have outlined a number of security initiatives that will make New Jersey schools some of the safest in the country. First is the creation of a comprehensive school security checklist. This list will provide specific guidelines that will be applied to all ofour schools. Security experts will also perform a through security of every New Jersey school before the start of classes next fall. They will ensure that these meet the STate's guidelines and will offer advice on how better to secure our classrooms. Law enforcement personnel will monitor every school construction site in the State. They will inspect the site, materials and equiptment for safety and for any signs of suspicious activity. In addition,to closer supervision, it is also essential that we educate school personnel on this important matter. We will have Federal Homeland Security officials assist us in establishing classes that will instruct teachers, administrators and other school workers on how to recognize and react to potential terrorist activity. We will bring the best ideas from New Jersey and the nation together in one place with a School Security Summit. The Summit will be held at Rutgers University and will give teachers, school administrators, government leaders and parents the opportunity to learn and share new ideas. The parents of New Jersey can be assured that I will leave no stone unturned in my effort to keep our kids safe. With careful planning and the help of our concerned residents, we will nmake New Jersey schools the safest in the country. With regards, Richard J Codey Acting Governor |

Bad news that someone would trespass, but excellent news that the security team and the police did their job effectively. |

Hummmm. Herve Horacious, 24, of Maplewood. Is this name a joke? I can't stop LOL. This might be a whole new ethnicity, Herve Horacious, I can't stop LOL! This is why anonymity is required on line, Herveyeo baby might get the mojo - That's Thai for mad crazy, at my real name. And I wouldn't be able to post a feeling I have about the name Herve Horacious - still LOL. So that is a Lesson Learned for the real straight libbies who think that if we are above board there will be a lot of respect to each other. OK, this HERVE, sounds a VD that used to make the rounds, just what did he do? 24 yrs old, humm, suspicious, but I am sure that the libbies and the ACLU will explain he is merely a victum. Last, the expensive monitors didn't factor into this capture. Sounds like good old on the ground first hand police work.

Reflective, You can't make this stuff up... I'm not sure what he did, but the charge of defiant trespass suggests that he had trespassed on school grounds before and was asked not to come back. Tom, I agree. The MPD are the BEST!

Reflective, I predict you will be shown wrong. No one will stand up for the trespasser. This will not prove to be a partisan issue. |

Hey Marie, They want to keep the schools safe? Then why are Aramark employees allowed to work with our children without their fingerprint results back from the State and FBI? Good work CHS security and MPD |
