True! My husband was in shock last week (I think) when the roads froze in the middle of the day. He went into the city with a light jacket on and nothing else. Needless to say, he froze his you know what off!! |

I blame myself. Just consider yourselves lucky that I didn't also run the snowblower until the gas ran out, to retire it for the season. We might have gotten a foot of snow instead of the inch we got!! |

Id be shocked to see a guy in a light jacket and nothing else...then again, maybe not shocked if he was in the city. |

My motto for the day: I DON'T CARE! I'm staying in my P.J.'s all day cuz I don't care. I made french toast with cinnamon and sugar and actually ate some, dripping with syrup, cuz I don't care. The kids are going to watch TV all day cuz I don't care. I'm not leaving this house cuz I don't care! I surrender. |

The only, and I mean ONLY solace I can take from this, uh, crap is that the daffodils are poking through the snow in my back yard. Our front yard on Monday was awash with crocus and the earth (when not covered in SNOW has the coming of spring smell). But man I am sick of this, my wife and I left New England partly cause winter lasts so long up there. Whats up with this place?? Crappy weather AND people who do not know how to drive in it. I mean just because you have 4 wheel drive does not mean you have 4 WHEEL STOP. |

Lets take a second and remember all the people today that were out there collecting our recycling , keeping the snow and slush off the sidewalks at our schools , and those not lucky enough to get a snow day. Even though it wasnt that bad snow can still make doing your job rough. |

I didnt have a snow day. I cleared snow off my sidewalk. With a shovel, not a plow. I take my recycling to the center. Let me bitch about it ok?

I hear and share your pain, Duncan. My wife is from Texas and she is OVER IT. I grew up in NYC and I've had it with the winters too. I guess things started to change for us when we had a baby and felt like we were trapped indoors for 1/3 of the year. We've been discussing relocating for some time and we're now actively pursuing it. Anyone know of any good headhunters in the Dallas/Plano, TX area? No joke. |

Sgt Pepper, I am like your wife, growing up in AZ. Now since the children are older, the winter is really fun. They love to go sledding, building snowmen, having snow fights. I wouldn't trade that for the world. When it snowed this week, my son was so happy, said how much he loves the snow. Just be patient, and wait for the baby to get older!! |

I absolutely agree with red67. I also know what you mean, Sgt. When my guys were really little I felt trapped inside too. Now that they're older, when it snows I can send them out back and they'll play in the snow forever. Even when you think they must be soaking wet and freezing cold, they don't want to come in. |

I agree with Red, too. On Thursday morning, I issued orders to my nine year-old daughter to take advantage of the two hour school delay and shovel the sidewalk. It was one of those milestone events not too different from when they start to use the toilet. |

tjohn that is priceless. It reminds me of the Verizon commercial where the dad sends his kids out into the snow to get use of the mobile phone, while he stands inside to watch them. |

It's not just that; we have other reasons (some health-related) for needing warmer climes. My two-year-old was very excited about the first snow of the year, until she got outside and realized how cold it was, LOL. After 20 minutes she turned to me and said, "Daddy, I want to go inside. It's too cold!" She got no argument from me. |

Duncan, all vehicles have four wheel stop. The problem is, four wheel drivers think they have an advantage in stopping, compared with cars. They don't, of course. |

sgt. Pepper I am moving to Dallas/Plano next week. I've had enough of NJ (winters , insane cost of living and my auto insurance being as much as a car payment). I used monster and google to find leads on jobs and a place to live. Currently I am thinking about either Addison or Plano. Really nice area and the heat isnt as bad as everyone says (I went for a visit in august, I'd trade 98 degrees at 10:30 am for any amount of snow any day)

Harlin- I grew up in Richardson and went to church in Plano. My parents live near the Collin County line. My brother is in Allen (North of Plano). Life is good in Texas. Have a great move.... Did you hear about the building collapse today in Plano? It was at the new TI construction site, just off of George Bush Freeway and Central? Hope your new job is not with the folks hired to build that $3 Billion facility! By the way - if you choose Plano you get to shop at Frey's, the electronics mega-store. |

Harlin -- best of luck with your move! I've got profiles set up on Monster, CareerBuilder and FlipDog. No interviews yet though I did just apply to Ross Perot's company (he's in Plano, folks). We're going down in a couple of weeks to look at houses; it will be our 2nd visit. Keeping our fingers crossed that we can make it happen soon. When it does, everyone please check the classifieds section; we'll be selling our new snowblower!

We're thinking of Jacksonville in a few years after the kids are in settled in (boarding) HS. The best winter I spent was several years ago when we spent Christmas (2 weeks) with my MOL in West Palm, she got sick and I went back 2 weeks later for 4 weeks. It's not the snow I can't take, it's days like today:dark. rain and 40 degrees!!!!!!!!!!!! Day after day after day. |

We started thinking about relocating when we realized how much we'd made on our house in the six years we've had it. We got in just before the insanity started and we figured we can cash out and buy something down in TX for cash, and even have a few bucks left over to put into savings. The much lower cost of living that would result would allow my wife to stop working, something she wants to do very badly. Harlin, do you have a job yet? Any good leads? PL me if you like; I'd be interested in discussing this further. |

I don't know Plano, but my sister and mother both live in between Dallas and Ft Worth (Euless and Collyville respectively). I think Collyville/Grapevine have a very good school system. Euless/Bedford is ok, my sister's kids are doing well. Weather is great in the winter, spring and fall. We went down a couple of weeks ago and it was mid-60's and beautiful. In July and August you basically don't leave the house during the day for fear of heatstroke. I remember my grandmother telling us to "go out and play", we would last about 10 min. The thing I don't like is the new cookie-cutter development and lack of anything with "character". No mom-and-pop owned anything. I can't tell my sister's house apart from the others on the block. But there is something to be said for well laid out houses and developments, big highways making for easier commuting, etc. Just not for me. My mom grew up in McKinney (north of Plano) and still has friends there. She says it is very cute, with a nice downtown area. No idea of the real estate or schools in the area though. I am hating the snow as well but am probably stuck until retirement, unless I can convince the hub to move to California. Good luck!

Plano's school system is supposed to be one of the best in the state; it's one of the things that first brought it to our attention. The "Mom and Pop" stuff is there but you have to know where to look. Luckily my wife and I both have some family and friends in the area, and one has already assured us he knows the best "hole-in-the-wall" Mexican restaurants, etc. I know what you mean about the cookie-cutter thing and we're trying to look at more established (read "older") communities, places with trees. Many of the houses have pools so when it's hot, you just walk out the patio door and jump in the water. And besides, you don't have to shovel heat! There is the small matter of tornadoes and hail though, especially in the spring. |

WHAT A DAY! The sun is shining, the sky is blue, the air is warm, the birds are chirping, flowers are coming up everywhere, the landscaper came today for his spring clean-up, the kids are outside playing, the windows are open and fresh air is filling the house. What an absolutely fabulous day! COULD IT BE SPRING? |
