Anyone else see it? I have to confess to being a little disappointed. After CGI movies like "Shrek," "Monsters Inc." and my personal favorite (if you can't figure out which it is I won't tell you) I thought that although the animation was delightful the story, characters and humor were woefully underpowered for true cross-generational enjoyment. I think some studios think if they round up a bunch of movie stars then that takes the place of really solid voice actor casting. What does Halle Berry add to an animated feature? Nothing. What does Holly Hunter add? Can't be measured. Anyone else? It gets two washers out of four in my book. |

Just keep swimming, just keep swimming swimming swimming... Actually, probably will be better on IMAX. Visually it's stunning and that's what carries the movie. I'm sure you'll enjoy it ... I think I'm just disappointed because of the height of the bar of recent CG animated films. It's not a fair to say that "Robots" is to "Finding Nemo" what "Home on the Range" is to "Beauty and the Beast" (I hear these comparisons are gone from the SAT now) but the one movie is definitely in a different class than the other. Have fun with it ... maybe now that I've kinda played it down it will seem even better to you. |

JustTheAunt: Just curious. The IMAX you refer to in Rockland, is that at that giant Palisades Mall? Sounds like a great place to see a movie. |

Robin Williams is the only thing that saves this movie from being a dud! I absolutely LOVVVVVVVVVVVE Robin Williams. I saw it this weekend in Millburn. The advertising is VERY misleading. I give it a 2 out of 4 also. |

I just saw Robots tonight. Sorry Bill, but as much as I liked Iron Giant, I was a bit disappointed by The Incredibles. The Incredibles looked stunning but overall the story was lackluster and the characters were unoriginal (well other than Olga). So I see similarities to Robots, which also was visually stunning, but the story was sorta same-ole same-ole. I was sorta torn by Robots. I didn't know how to feel about it, cause it was well done, and there were times when I was VERY impressed and I felt that sense of wonder that good animation can give. But overall the film was just sorta flat. I couldn't love it and I couldn't hate it. As for Robin Williams, I think he is too much. It's as if he only knows one way to perform and sometimes a film can tolerate that intensity and sometimes it can't. So I can see how someone might think he MADE the film, but personally I think he broke an already weak film. His character (Fender) wasn't that interesting, nor that important, but Robin Williams went so GONZO that it overshadowed everything else in the film. So you tell me is that the Best thing or the Worst thing in the film. I lean toward that latter personally. As for how good recent animated films are, did you see that turd of a film about fish starring Will Smith? |

yabbadabba, I fell asleep too! I never do that either. Very disappointing! I then went to see The Pacifier the next weekend and enjoyed that one. |

wow...maybe I have lower expectations than most. I saw Robots this weekends with my kids. We all enjoyed it. Will it win an Oscar? No. Will it be a classic that will be cherished as part of our cultural heritage? No. Did two little kids (and their geezer dad) have a fun afternoon watching it? Yes. It's like those tv ads. cost of two little kids giggling with glee throughout an entire movie.....priceless.

filmboy, You know, maybe I was a little harsh. I got a number of chuckles out of the film, and I heard some kids in the theater going absolutely nuts. One of my problems, I guess, is take this cast: Ewan McGregor, Halle Berry, Mel Brooks, Greg Kinnear, Robin Williams, Drew Carey, Jennifer Coolidge, Paul Giamatti, Jim Broadbent, Stan Tucci and Diane Wiest. Put 'em all together and some fantabulous computer animation. What do you get? An average movie. And AlleyGater, Edna is going to be so mad you called her Olga.
