This Saturday, March 19th, from 1:00 to 5:00 pm in the basement of Maplewood Memorial Library, South Mountain Peace Action is sponsoring ARTS AND CRAFTS PROJECTS FOR PEACE, as the first part of our "Be About Peace Day" in Maplewood on the second anniversary of the war in Iraq.

The arts and crafts projects are designed for children and adults.

One of the projects is the painting of a light blue peace symbol on a canvass door-hanger. You may remember these on many homes in Maplewood just before the war began two years ago. They were made by a group of children with the help of their parents.

There will be poster painting, beading, casting, sculpturing (the owner of Platypus Pottery will be here), quilting and T-shirt painting (on our new "Be About Peace" T-shirts).

There will also be a mini-theater workshop for children by Raven Chaney, a professional actress.

We'll also have lots of our "Be About Peace" lawn signs and our new South Mountain Peace Action button (dove carrying Mapleleaf in beak).

The event is free, donations are optional.

In the evening we'll reconvene at 7:00 pm at the Ethical Culture Society where we'll have music from two Columbia High School bands ("The Pubes" and "The Buzzards of Green Hill"), the MLK Gospel Choir and poetry.

There will also be an open forum where members of the public will have the opportunity to express their thoughts on the second anniversary of the war.

The day's events will conclude with a Candlelight Vigil in the Ethical Society's peace garden where we'll dedicate a peace memorial that will be crafted in the afternoon at the library.

It will be a creative, thought-provoking, and uplifiting day for peace.
