A different issue. One of the most expensive school districts ever, is spending more unbudgeted money by trying to stay one step ahead or even with , in my opinion, a politically motivated play on the election, the suit, and more devisiness. These are tactical maneuvers deliberately intended to increase costs in overtime and in legal fees, not to mention the additional energy drain on staff who are trying their best to educate our students. Consider this a selfish, self-centered, vindictive, agenda driven legal maneuver(what else-lawyers- judges -you know). Dollars and Greed rule for these stuck in the past libbies. Hey, Bill Cosby has moved on, what about you? This is costing all of us a lot of money, and has created devisiness. Thanks MLK, MOBwhatever, student council-shame, and adult teacher who is part of a suit against the school district. |

Reflective, the budget is now capped, for better or worse, so this won't cost us any money. Any unplanned expenses could create an opportunity cost, but not a money cost. The intentions you ascribe can't be any more than speculation. |

Reflective is talking ANOTHER lawsuit against the BOE (hint: it involves music)...you know, the one that will really cost the district money...but one that doesn't bother him. |

On the subject of the MPD and student walkouts: Recall the student walkout preceeding the Iraq War, which comprised 200+ students. The Maplewood Police kept a presence throughout the march, which went down Valley Street, through the park and village, returning the same way. The marchers controlled themselves. There was some chanting, but no major disturbance. The police functioned not only to make sure that the marchers did not become unruly, but to facilitate their movement through town (i.e. they acted as crossing guards when students crossed Maplewood Avenue). The most trouble they got, to my knowledge, was with a disgruntled motorist who had been stopped so part of the march could cross. (swore at students then at the cop directing traffic). The MPD and the students worked with each other well, to the point where many marchers were grateful for and even surprised with the cooperation. I wouldn't imagine that they expected violence; rather, I'd expect them to be acting in the same fashion as before, maintaining order all around. Corollary: it's possible for high school students to organize and carry out an orderly demonstration. |

Thank-you Albatross! My reply was one of sarcasm. I knew the kids would conduct themselves in an orderly fashion. Again "hysteria" on wysteria lane of Maplewood. |

Phenix, I knew that your reply was sarcasm; my comment was to the general nature of the police presence in my experience. If I offended you or it appeared that I was rebuking you, it was not my intent. |

Not at all Albatross. I was more than glad to see your point of view of previous walkouts at CHS from your experience. Again, I thank-you. |
