First I hated The Aviator and it got nominated for a bazillion awards. Well, I thought, at least Million Dollar Baby won best picture. That must be great. Anyone else think, "Good, not great. Heavy-handed. Looked like it was written by someone who writes Westerns"? What ever happened to good writing with characters that were realistic and subtle and not so predictable? Or have I just lost touch with what's good and bad? I did like Sideways but didn't think it was Best Picture caliber. Well, I still have Hotel Rwanda. |

I thought Million Dollar Baby was a great movie, not only did it explore the relationship between fighter and trainer, it also explored the relationship between a father and a doughter. I say a lot of my dad and I in that movie. Not that I wanted to be a boxer, but how hard it was for Clint Eastwood's character to let Hillary Swanks character "go" and become the fighter she wanted to be. I also thought Morgan Freedman was excellent as well. |

Saw Ray last night on DVD. Really, really liked it and thought Jamie Foxx and it deserved whatever awards it received. All of the actresses were wonderful, too. Motorcycle Diaries is next up. |

Ray was wonderful, though I think Sideways was better, even though it was sure to have a narrower appeal. |

Valentine - while I loved Adaptation I just didn't "get" Eternal Sunshine. I wanted to, but I didn't.... I loved Finding Neverland |

Then again, I should note: Finding Neverland and the Incredibles were the only nominated movies I've seen.... I still need to see Hotel Rwanda, Sideways, Ray, Motorcycle Diaries & Million Dollar Baby. I don't care to see the Aviator. |

I liked Eternal Sunshine and Adaptation though for me they were a little fringey, a little Napolean Dynamite, a little Garden State. I think those sorts of movies mostly don't end up with the big awards given narrower appeal. I liked Finding Neverland a lot, but it was kinda small. 'Bout the only sort of thing I'm not good with is the Quentin Tarrantino genre. Not good any more with those slices of life. I'm kind of escapest. Looking forward to Bride and Prejudice as much as Motorcycle Diaries. |

Cynicalgirl, OMG, I loved Napolean Dynamite and I also love Garden State, I am a huge Zach Braff fan, I have seen every episode of Scrubs. Cally me totally insane, but I have every Tom Cruise movie on DVD, have been a fan since I saw him in Top Gun and it's my favorite movie. Top Gun is in my DVD player and has been for the last week, I have seen it about 1,000 times it's the movie I watch when I am board, when I am depressed and when I just want to see a sexy man in a flight suit(lol) |

Hey, I liked those movies, too. I thought ND was an awful slow start, though. My favorite movie -- which I no longer own and isn't on DVD -- is a weird British movie by Lindsay Anderson called "O, Lucky Man." Closely followed by Babe, The Ruling Class, and American Dreamer. |

I "got" Eternal Sunshine, I just think it dragged on and tried to hard to do what it was trying to do. If anyone can 'get' what that means... lol. Good stuff, definitely no Being John Malkovich. |

Cynicalgirl, I don't know if you trust this sort of thing, but this guy says he has a "perfect" DVD transfer of O Lucky Man from laserdisc. http://www.geocities.com/malcolmtribute/olm.html Scroll down to see info on a deleted scene. |

Dave, I just wrote that guy. I have owned several copies of the album over time. I adore it. I saw it like 20 times in my hometown when it came out. I went and saw Alan Price and band play in Philly (the Bijou Cafe), illegally (I was 19)_. Thank you SO much! I have -- or did as of about 5 years ago -- all of Alan Price's albums, and many of the Animals.

Mark, Tom Cruise finally playing the bad guy, it was a total turn on for me . I thought Jamie Foxx was excellent as the cabbie. Tom Cruise and I share the same birthday, but he's a year younger than I am |
