Due to the discussion going on in a thread about multiple postings, I was wondering how you read MOL? Do you read every post in every topic? Do you only look at certain topcs never looking at the others? Do you use the last day option or the last X hours in the search? Do you only read those topics that you asked to be emailed to you?
Guess I should post this under other topics in case not everyone reads the Virtual Cafe.

I persoanlly go to search and then enter the time since I've last looked to see if there are any new posts in almost all subjects and threads.

My preferred method to read MOL is to use the "new messages" search to see all posts since the last time I checked. Then I scan the topics in the "hit list" to decide which ones to read. If the search works correctly, this seems to be the most efficient method of keeping up. Theoretically, it should guarantee that I never miss anything posted. However, if I wait too long to check (more than a day or so, sometimes even less) or if the search is having problems, then I have to resort to other methods ... usually just browsing through the topics list, since "last day" or "last x hours" tend to have similar issues as "since last check".

I get all posts in South Orange Specific and Soapbox:All Politics delivered via email as they are made. The other areas (this one, soapbox, please help, etc.) I peruse when I have some free time. I also get all replies to all my posts via email. It's a great little service.

I read MOL in bed(get your minds out of the gutter)....on my laptop. I read the topics that I find intresting and will or would answer those topics that I want to learn about, but may not answer. For the topics that I don't understand or may not find interesting I skip.

I read only those threads I'm interested in. There's just too much information on the Internet to read everything, even in this one forum.

I completely ignore "Soapbox: Politics." My blood pressure can't take it!

I will read it on a boat.
I will read it with a goat.
I will read it in a house.
I will read it with a mouse.
I will read it here or there.
I will read it anywhere.
I will read Maplewood Online.
But I can't read it at bedtime.

ha ha ha - I'm with Rastro.

To answer LL's question, my main route "in" is via the notification on e-mail if anybody posts on a thread that I've posted on earlier. This is supposed to prevent me from posting on new threads.

However, I almost invariably then click "topics" to see what else is going on.

I stick to a few key areas - Please Help, Soapbox, Virtual Cafe - and occasionally wander into Education or Politics, but generally regret it (though politics is the tamer of the two). I only read threads with titles that appeal to me for some reason or another, sometimes go beyond that if I'm bored or desperately avoiding something or other at work.

I almost never use hte "check for new stuff" feature, but probably should - it would keep me more honest. I'm a browser by temperament though.
