And Stevie Wonder just "reads" that Kelly Clarkson is the first winner of the evening.

Speaking of Stevie and Sir Paul, here is an interesting bit of trivia. On the the original Red Rose Speedway album, the words "We Love You" were written in braille as a message to Stevie Wonder.

Coldplay. I love Coldplay.

We're looking for big things from Paul tonight. He won't win for Album of the Year but a nice performance of Helter Skelter will do.

Nice performance by Coldplay.

Okay. Merle Haggard wins a lifetime achievement award. Okay. Whatever. That ought to make Bush and Cheney and Southerner happy.

Best song so far - The shape of things to come by Max Frost and the troopers - from the Target commercial.

U2 on now. I love U2. Saw them live only once - at Live Aid in London 1985. The Edge is a great guitarist in my book.

MJB on with them now for One. One of the best songs ever. Best performance of the night so far. Makes Chris Martin look like Tiny Tim.

Ben Rotherleseseregrgerberger. Oh great. The offspring of Franco Harris (that thieving bum) introduces Kelly Clarkson. She's got a good voice. I actually like her.

But please tell me that Terry Hanratty isn't going to introduce Justin Guarini next.

It's reported that Les Paul is doing much better, He had some fluids in his lungs apparently.
He's not the only Grammy winner in that hospital, so is Latin jazz percussionist Ray Barretto.
It's to bad he had to miss his star studded 90th birthday celebration Tuesday.

Mariah Carey. Let's see: will the dress be 3 or 4 sizes too tight tonight?

Oh I take it back. She looks good. But she's gotta stop that Whitney Houston hand movement thingy.

Nice lungs Mariah! The great thing about the Grammy Awards for those of us who don't generally listen to pop, you get to hear some of these folks who can really sing. Man, I loved that song with the gospel choir.

Yeah, Jupiter.

Holy crap! Sly looks like some sort of mutant rooster. Do you think he was supposed to leave the stage in the middle of Higher? They looked a little bit lost after that.

Great set.

Did Bruce Stringbean finish yet? Damn that guy puts me to sleep. It's like watching a TC meeting.

Speaking of TC meetings, did last night's end yet? When Frederico went through the agenda in his opening monologue, there were so many items listed that I fully expected the last one to be next January's swearing in ceremony. Just one 11 month long meeting.
