We're supposed to drive about 5 hours north tonight.
No 4WD, returning on Sunday. Really don't want to get stranded, but don't want to unnecessarily break my kids' hearts either...

6-12 inches starting at about 4 tomorrow ending at noonish Sunday followed by 40 mph winds. Supposed to go to Carmel, NY tomorrow afternoon and I already cancelled.

So unless you and the kids are heading out to go skiing..well I don't know!!

Well, not necessarily me, but the older kids and my husband.

I think we will have to cancel. The MPV stinks in the snow, and my husband really needs to get back for work Monday.

Now to think of a way to make it up to them...

Pretty bad. My sister's flight tomorrow out of Florida was canceled this morning. As we're scrambling trying to get her on a flight for today the Funeral Director called and canceled my father's funeral.

I haven't been to Bunnys in two weeks, I need a Bunny hug!

I've got a "Chicken-Turkey Sausage, Chili-Gumbo" simmering on the stove right now (big pot of it, it will last for days, I may just have to freeze some), so I've got dinner made for the "Monster Wife" when she gets home.
"Monster Boy" & "Monster Girl" probably won't eat any of it, so they can fend for themselves and fight each other over the crumbs down in the seat cushions.

Snow wont be coming until Sat night (after midnight) and Sunday morning, and we should get about 10" - I'm a weather junkie. As long as my mom can make it here on Sunday night or Monday morning so I can get myself to Puerto Rico on Tues. without my children I am ok with it. - happy birthday to me- Has anyone else noticed it always seems to have a major snowfall here around Presidents Day ?

Campbell, that's what I was afraid of. Tomorrow seems like it would be ok, but we were scared for driving home on Sunday.

Oh well, my kids are miserable, at least the oldest, this is going to be a fun weekend. : (

Weather.com says that "snow showers" start at 6pm, turning to "snow" (i.e. heavier) by 9pm.

It would have to be a monsoon of snow for NJT to not run trains. They will be late and short - but they will run. Now, the trick is will the theater be open? Hope it is a later show.....

Dave, thanks for the offer. I'd prefer you use UPS. They're more reliable. All kidding aside, when we moved here, I got rid of all of my coats thinking I wouldn't need one in FLORIDA. How stupid was that? I went yesterday and bought one at the mall.

They seem to be pushing the end of the storm out later into Sunday. Snow now won't end until mid-afternoon, and winds will be brutal, making it difficult to clear the snow quickly.

mother of god, with all these postings + one on snow blower etiquette, you would think a) that we've never seen snow before, and b) that we were due for the storm of the century.

Citizenry, calm down. If it comes, the youngsters will have fun, we'll all shovel and blow away snow, and whatever comes down will help replenish our reservoirs.

And if there's enough of it, we'll work from home.

red - I hope you're right and that the windy conditions projected for Sunday don't sabotage that.

I, for one, am enjoying the fact that several calendar items I had on tap for today and tomorrow have now been cancelled or postponed so some badly needed time is opening up for me. Unfortunately I'm spending it studying for a midterm on Monday rather than more leisurely pursuits, but it is reducing some stress there.

Inclement weather never affects my comings & goings, so I've no particular personal concern about your upcoming snowfall.

However, 'twould be a pity of the elements force the cancellation of one of your community's nicest annual events, tomorrow's QuizBowl Tournament for the benefit of your South Orange-Maplewood Education Fund (S.O.M.E.F.), which is to be held at S.O.M.S....

I'll use my personal contacts to appeal for a light hit, but I fear the die is cast. Perhaps some local S.O.M.E.F. macher can enlighten us all with the latest news or updates on any possible rescheduling... (I may be all-seeing, but what do you expect for free?)

Go in peace.

Doesn't look good:

Snow will become heavy at times overnight and continue towards
midday on Sunday. Northeast winds will increase to 15 to 25 mph
with gusts up to 35 mph... causing blowing and drifting of snow and
near blizzard conditions.

By the time the snow ends early Sunday afternoon... accumulations
should average 10 to 16 inches... with locally higher amounts
