Great town but has serious problems. Good luck with taxes that will never decrease, town council clowns, Essex county corruption, Columbia high school, Irvington predators... Homework for the evening: Short essay on why you continue to live in Maplewood.

jeb -- you forgot to mention where you moved. I just spent the weekend in Bowie, MD and just one weekend made me appreciate Maplewood all the more! Why do I continue to live here: I love my house, I love that I can walk to town and that I can take long walks to Millburn, So. Orange, and right up into the reservation. I love that I can walk to the train which will deliver me express into the city. I love all the playgrounds. I love walking around and seeing all the beautiful homes. I like the proximity to Newark Airport. I love the lack of fast food. I love that I can get all my shopping done without ever having to drive on a highway or vist a mall. I love the town pool -- even with the 20 minute adult swim every hour. I love my screened in porch -- it's the reason I bought my house. |

jeb, You moved and are most likely no longer a member of the community, unless you are a landlord or a business owner..why are you interested in our opinions on why we stay? I never feel a need to defend or even outline why I live here, especially to someone who left. You found the grass greener elsewhere...thats your personal choice and opinion and youre entitled to it. I just like living here and helping when I can to maintain whats good and make things better where need be, and talking about the issues with the many others who do and feel the same. Your time may be better spent posting on a message board for your new town why those folks live there. Good luck in your new town and new home. |

Damn! I really wanted a screened porch. Oh well, maybe in the next house. Otherwise, I agree with Algebra2! |

Adding to what Algebra2 said, it's home... and home is where my heart is. Furthermore, you're right when you said it's a great town, however, it's the world around us that has the serious problems, not Maplewood. Chances are that where ever you go taxes will never decrease, hard as they may try, town council's will not be able to keep everyone happy, county government will always have some level of corruption, high school's will need improvement, and neighboring town's like Irvington will have its predators... I prefer to take my chances and fight the good fight right here in our great little old town that I will always call home. Good-bye Jeb, and all the best of good luck where ever you go!

and ... most importantly, Mem and the girls. What if there was no Maplewoodonline? Huh, jeb? You ever think of that? Maplewoodonline is reason enough to continue living in Maplewood. PS Mem, I ate a huge hunk of cave ripened cheese last night and boy do I stink! |

jeb, don't you think phrasing your question "why you continue to live in Maplewood" was designed to put people on the defensive? (not that I think Hank was being defensive) Of course, I could be wrong. Maybe you were just asking an innocent question without trying to be snide. |

Summit - walk to town. Not snide, just curious. Thought Hank Zona's reply was somewhat childish. "You don't live here anymore so I don't have to talk with you. And you can't visit MaplewoodOnline anymore..." Good grief. |

Jeb, admittedly, your post read like a flame. As if a 15 year old wrote something just to piss people off. So its no wonder you got a defensive response. |

jeb, I'm sorry, but no matter how you phrase it, your question sounds snide to me. Now you're saying you're "just curious" as to why someone would continue to live in Maplewood. The subtext of that statement is that you don't see ANY reason why someone would live here. So please excuse me if I find the question obnoxious. (p.s. I'm just curious to know why someone would move to Summit. ) |

Walk to Planet Sushi would be one of my first choices..and you can actually get a fairly sizeable amount of back yard property for substanially higher priced real estate and substantially lower taxes. While on the sushi subject, can someone chase out that Waterlillie place. I ate sushi there a few months ago. Maybe a town ordinance on low end food, perhaps. Ugh!!!!

- A good Sushi joint would make a killing in Maplewood…. - so would an Irish Pub (I am aware of the never-opening pub on Maplewood Ave) so long as they can pull a decent Guinness and serve palatable fish n' chip…. - as would an Indian Curry/Tandori place. Gotta go eat something (anything) now.
