Man, when the hottest controversy is whether or not someone should park in front of your house when they're visiting your neighbor, things have gotten BOR-ING. |

Well, it's summer, after all. The things that generate controversy (political campaigns, school board actions, Township Committee decisions, etc.) tend to slow down during the summer. We've all gotten tired of discussing Iraq, and even the most die-hard Bush supporter probably thinks it's a good idea wait and see what else is going to come out, about what was known before the war. Oh, and the Crips and Bloods are on vacation, so gang sightings are down. |

I think weve already gone there. KFC was supposed to take the former Amoco space. The plan fell through. Well also have Burnett BBQ soon. They should have chicken on their menu. Any other ideas??

Tom, I think you should approach invites from people with only 6 posts with caution. :-)

things are boring because Dave decided to banish Strawberry. That guy carried this little web site for over a year. Now, all we have is liberal whining about the spoon not being as silver as it used to be. Hopefully Dave learned a lesson. Banish your best posters, lose your best posts.

Well, the only way it has anything to do with Strawberry, would be the fact that many interesting people decided that they had better things to do than subject themselves to Straw's nonsense and insults. Maybe those folks will wander back. I know you're lurking out there, I can hear you clicking ... |

Strawberry decided to banish Strawberry with personal attacks against others. It's easy to see how some feel watching personal attacks is a form of entertainment (look at the popularity of radio shockjock blowhards), but if you were on my end dealing with all the complaint e-mail you'd do exactly the same thing. I believe in personal responsibility. Don't you? |

not to pile on the Straw dude, but another poster put it best -- it was his need for attention that was keeping me away from the threads he participated in, not his politics or even the occasional insults. How many threads did he turn into a forum about himself? To use his own favorite term, it was getting "boring." With strawberry gone, a bunch of other trolls seem to have stepped in to replace him -- and to respond would be giving them more credibility than they deserve. So the same 5 or 6 people go 'round and 'round on the same couple of issues. Once in awhile I violate one of my personal guidelines (never argue with an idealogue or an idiot) and participate, but most times I say "what's the use?" I'm tired of red herring arguments when people don't have a good argument. Implying that another poster is a hypocrite, a partisan hack, anti-American, etc, may make you feel good, but it's not addressing issues with any thought. (Frankly, if you're resorting to calling someone a hypocrite, it's a sure sign that you've lost the argument on its merits.) But go ahead, blame it on those bogey men "liberals." They've ruined the rest of the country (although they actually run nothing), so blame them for making MOL boring. |

There are lots of right-wingers I respect. I enjoy arguing with them, respectfully. Strawberry wasn't interesting, respectful, or intelligent. His mind was not open. I never took him on, because it wouldn't be a real exchange of ideas. I was unimpressed, and I don't need someone like him to spur on good conversations. His jumping in to say "Boring!" made me wonder if he thought it was our job to amuse him. That wasn't amusing to me. Tom Reingold

Ml1 it is attitudes like the one expressed in your post that have taken most of the fun out of these boards. "...a bunch of other trolls seem to have stepped in to replace him -- and to respond would be giving them more credibility than they deserve." "Once in awhile I violate one of my personal guidelines (never argue with an idealogue or an idiot) and participate, but most times I say "what's the use?" My sentiments exactly. What's the use? Your arrogance and condescension is annoying. You're a bright person and I enjoy reading your posts (though I rarely agree with them) but why the need for the veiled insults? When discussing political or social issues this board is way too liberal for my thinking. I read but rarely get involved any more except when the issue revolves around innane comments like "tax the rich, they can afford it." "Or base property taxes on income level" or some other such nonsense. I much prefer the Home fix it section now. |
