Bobk and Dave: “religious right wing of the GOP?” and “white conservative litmus test” ? Sorry guys, you have very little understanding of the GOP. In fact, both of you have frequently offered evidence to back that up. And Dave, haven’t you traditionally voted Democrat anyway? Wake up! View the facts. Haven’t you both witnessed the transition that has taken place during W’s tenure? The GOP has emerged as a more “compassionate” party. View the recent legislation proposed and transacted. Take medical reforms, which when combined with yesterday’s announcement regarding the stance toward aliens, both serve as examples of how the GOP has captured many of the traditionally Democratic issues. Things like those help reposition the GOP. They begin to attract voters from the middle to replace the extreme of the party. In other words, they take voters away from the Democrats, just as Reagan did. Meanwhile as the Democrats embrace the extreme, they assist the GOP in capturing the middle. Karl Rove may not be as stupid as you would like to think and neither is Bush. Legislation and strategy has been leading the way towards reforming the GOP right under the noses of the Democratic party which is held hostage by Clintonistas. The emergence of Howard Dean is further evidence. While he attracts and panders the extreme left, the GOP is making off with the middle.

...and neither are people such as Dave and myself as stupid as Mr. Rove thinks. The drug benefits bill is probably more a sop to the drug industry than to consumers, since it doesn't allow bulk discounts. Most everything I have read indicates that the immigration reform initiative is little more than a political ploy to gain inroads with Hispanics. Doctors are being vetted for their views on abortion before being sent to Irag. Tom Ridge was an early possibility for VP, but was rejected because he is pro-choice. Bush and Ashcroft have put forth a long list of judicial nominees who probably shouldn't be municipal court judges. And on and on. I was taken in by the compasionate conservative retoric last election. I don't think it worked out. And do you really think that Clinton and Dean are solemates? |

bobk and others here think Bush is only giving lip-service to the compassionate conservative thing. If you know anything about conservatives, we've bristled at that 'compassionate' tag ever since it was used because conservatism is compassionate in and of itself, we believe (different thread, guys). Anyway, here's an article from Human Events -- something you squishy people here in the NE would describe as 'far right.' They discuss the non-existent extremism of Bush. http://www.humaneventsonline.com/article.php?id=2777 |

Bobk, I welcome you to please provide clear evidence of your accusations that, "Doctors are being vetted for their views on abortion before being sent to Irag." And please be specific (name the names) of those judicial nominees. Until you do, you are just blowing smoke... Besides, face it. The Democratic Party is split and the GOP is not pandering to the far extreme. Have a nice day.

well, if Human Events online doesn't think he's right-wing, then he must be a moderate! I wonder what you'd have to do for the likes of Ann "basically any white person who believes in God is a Republican" Coulter to think you were a right-wing extremist. Can you give me an example? |

tom, one thing we can probably all agree on: George W. Bush has relentlessly pushed an agenda that supports a handful of corporate interests represented by his contributors, relatives, and cronies. Even the war in Iraq was a pet cause of the people who surround him. Many of them have been pushing regime change there since 1991. That cronyism (and a desire to be re-elected), more than any right-left ideology, is what drives him. It's irrelevant to argue whether he's a true conservative or not. Decide whether or not you agree or disagree with the single-minded agenda he's pursuing and vote accordingly. |

If you hang your cronyism charge on Halliburton, the evidence argues against you as far back as Viet Nam. If you think he's got a single-minded agenda to just get reelected and stay in office, I'd say his pales markedly in comparison to someone who was "groomed" to be president like Al Gore. As for Ann Coulter, she's an irrelevant wing-nut. If you made her happy, she'd find a reason to not be happy. But you're on to something, tom. Bush is more of a moderate than anything else in the way he governs. |

If Bush is considered extreme now, how in the hell are we ever going to cut spending to get the budget under control? And please do not respond with the mindless mantra of economic growth slowing tax hikes.

Hello Posters: I am glad that this little thread which I started a few days ago has attracted so many posters! Sbenois : I see that you waited an entire 7 minutes to read my thread and post on it. As much as I admire your sbenoisishness, I am disappointed that your first thought was to deny reality. George Bush was elected fair and square. Reflective : You were also up late ~ sorry you did not respond to my theme ~ but at least you put Sbenois in his place - I think. Mayhewdrive : I prefer the real sites about a real man - sorry that you liberals have to stoop as low as you do. FYI to all posters - I am not affiliated with Mayhewdrive - Nonetheless I hope that everytime he posts he thinks of this May to his dismay! cjc : Great post and thanks for having the courage to tell the truth! Again and Again. No Hero : I have also found you to be a positive and well admired poster over the years. Dr F : What you are doing is making a straw man argument and I am not buying it. The GOP does not equal Amway, and in any case, Amway is NOT a pyramid scheme. Trying to figure out from whence your wacky comment came I can only assume it is because "W" knows how to use the internet. Well golly! Johnny : Be good! Your post was great Ukelele: I believe that I and the country at large will get our collective wish. Clinton was an embarassment - hitting on female interns in the dark corridors surrounding the Oval Office. "I did not have sex with that woman!" What a liar is Clinton! George W. Bush - like his father - is a moral person and an honest leader. As for Nixon - I wish that he had defeated Kennedy in 1960 - Nixon was a great President - in fact, he was the "One". I do admit that Dick Nixon did untimately fail as President - that he was dishonest - what a shame - he had so much potential. I agree that the Democrats blew it this time, although the least worst seems to be Lieberman. If Gore had gotten elected and something happened, he could be President right now! We are still cleaning up after the mess Bill Clinton made. I don't think this country is scared but Saddam surely was! Tom: whatever Straw: You would be such a good poster if you just did not shout and diatribe. Same as I told my good friend Art - don't be such a loud and obnoxious poster! ML1: Many Republicans ARE like Ed May (but fortunately not TOO many)! (Self depreciating humor.) All I am doing is trying to present my candidate and his views in a factful and civil manner. I don't always agree with "W" as he is now being called. I fought him on the steel tariffs issue (and won). I think "W" bent over backwards too much to please Ted Kennedy on the Education Bill two years ago. I have reservations about "W"'s immigration plan ~ but the more I study it the more it makes sense ... Ainsworth Hunt : You have the coolest name but your post seems to come from left field. More Later

It is later: Llama Pajama: I rolled out of bed when I read Kenney's recipe! And speakin of disasters, the 9 person Democrat Menagerie is ridiculous! Dizzy Dean is the Leader of the Pack? I predict that he will self destruct on his own words - words that he is already speaking - even before the Iowa Caucuses (Cauci?). Maybe someone with a 1560 SAT could tell me! In any case, I believe that George W's goal is to set everyone free to enjoy Democracy as in Afghanistan and Iraq and pretty soon other countries that harbor terrorists and WMD (which by the way, Saddam moved before we invaded). Dave Ross is, in fact, the most cool! Or is that Jaime? Kenney: I look forward to more recipes ~ anything with Dean in it? Michaela: You are my first born, and Marilyn's too! Welcome to MOL. You know it is traditional to post first in the section that welcomes new MOL-ers. None-the-less. You are like Alex Keaton, except that he was conservative from liberal parents. I am proud that we raised a daughter (age 22, living in WDC, graduate of Columbia HS and Brandeis University, writing for the e-zine ongress Daily) that can speak so eloquenly on matters political. Unfortunately you are wrong. Hello! The World does NOT look at US with distaste. What other country are people constantly trying to sneak into! If not for the warped reporting from the two nations we just liberated you would know how unshackeled millions of formerly enslaved people feel! When we helped certain countries that are now axes of evil, those countries and the world were a different place. Glad you are glad that mass murderer Saddam Hussein is gone! What's his name Osama is next! We are not the World's Policeman or Policewoman for that matter. You refer to the UN, wistfully. Hello, when the UN failed to re-inforce its own resolutions, WE and a cohort of willing partners did so. Hell, the UN is located in NYC, a mere trainride from South Orange - Maplewood,. and if it were not for the US of A the frickin UN would not exist! Thanks, Michaela (who went to Morrow Pre-School, St. Joe's, Boyden, Clinton, and MMS)for calling me "perhaps the Greatest Dad in the World" but what do you mean perhaps?! Did you mean that George Bush the first (with whom I have breakfasted) was the Greatest?!? Don: Good idea, exceppt that "W" wants Cheney for another four. Ashear: You have a point. bobk: Balkanization? Is that a good thing? Dave: Conservative far right litmus test? Michaela: You jumped up to post 7 - where else did you post? By the way, Halliburton served this country extraordinarily well and lost several employees doing so! Condy Rice doesn't make me uneasy! She is great. Clinton only appointed token minorities, but "W" goes with the best people irregardless ..... As for Hillary, if she were a man, she would still be a lieing thieving bitch! Mem: Ah, Mem! I told my wife about the hours we spent imbibing at the Winolear I mean whatever they call it now. Centanni's. Too bad we could not put it on Joel Ziegler's tab! By the way, he had a quadruple bypass after the election and is recuperating well! Gemini: My sign is Libra what is your sign ... ? Boogie Man: Are you not Sbenois in disguise? More later.

Thanks for the kind words about my name, and for the comment about left field. Better there than left out. I wish I could take credit for the following, but alas it is cut and paste: Resume of George W. Bush President, The White House, USA EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE LAW ENFORCEMENT: I was arrested in Kennebunkport, Maine, in 1976 for driving under the influence of alcohol. I pled guilty, paid a fine, and had my driver's license suspended for 30 days. My Texas driving record has been "lost" and is not available. MILITARY: I joined the Texas Air National Guard and went AWOL. I refused to take a drug test or answer any questions about my drug use. By joining the Texas Air National Guard, I was able to avoid combat duty in Vietnam. While serving as Commander In Chief, I allowed the Pentagon to be hit by a passenger plane 56 minutes after the first of the World Trade Center buildings were attacked in the exact same manner. COLLEGE: I graduated from Yale University with a low C average. I was a cheerleader. PAST WORK EXPERIENCE: I ran for U.S. Congress and lost. I began my career in the oil business in Midland, Texas, in 1975. I bought an oil company, but couldn't find any oil in Texas. The company went bankrupt shortly after I sold all my stock. I bought the Texas Rangers baseball team in a sweetheart deal that took land using taxpayer money. I traded Sammy Sosa to the Cubs. With the help of my father and our right-wing friends in the oil industry (including Enron's CEO Ken Lay), I was elected governor of Texas. ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS GOVERNOR OF TEXAS: I changed Texas pollution laws to favor power and oil companies, making Texas the most polluted state in the Union. During my tenure, Houston replaced Los Angeles as the most smog-ridden city in America. I cut taxes and bankrupted the Texas treasury to the tune of billions in borrowed money. I set the record for the most executions by any governor in American history. With the help of my brother, the governor of Florida, and my father's appointments to the Supreme Court, I became President after losing by over 500,000 votes. ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS PRESIDENT: I am the first President in U.S. history to enter office with a criminal record. I invaded and occupied two countries at a continuing cost of over one billion dollars per week. I spent the U.S. surplus and effectively bankrupted the U.S. Treasury. I shattered the record for the largest annual deficit in U.S. history. I set an economic record for most private bankruptcies filed in any 12-month period. I set the all-time record for most foreclosures in a 12-month period. I set the all-time record for the biggest drop in the history of the U.S. stock market. In my first year in office, over 2 million Americans lost their jobs and that trend continues every month. I'm proud that the members of my cabinet are the richest of any administration in U.S. history. My "poorest millionaire," Condoleeza Rice, has a Chevron oil tanker named after her. I set the record for most campaign fund-raising trips by a U.S. President. I am the all-time U.S. and world record-holder for receiving the most corporate campaign donations. My largest lifetime campaign contributor, and one of my best friends, Kenneth Lay, presided over the largest corporate bankruptcy fraud in U.S. History, Enron. My political party used Enron private jets and corporate attorneys to assure my success with the U.S. Supreme Court during my election decision. I have protected my friends at Enron and Halliburton against investigation >or prosecution. More time and money was spent investigating the Monica Lewinsky affair than has been spent investigating one of the biggest corporate rip-offs in history. I presided over the biggest energy crisis in U.S. history and refused to intervene when corruption involving the oil industry was revealed. I presided over the highest gasoline prices in U.S. history. I changed the U.S. policy to allow convicted criminals to be awarded government contracts. I appointed more convicted criminals to administration than any President in U.S. history. I created the Ministry of Homeland Security, the largest bureaucracy in the history of the United States government. I've broken more international treaties than any President in U.S. history. I am the first President in U.S. history to have the United Nations remove the U.S. from the Human Rights Commission. I withdrew the U.S. from the World Court of Law. I refused to allow inspectors access to U.S. "prisoners of war" detainees and thereby have refused to abide by the Geneva Convention. I am the first President in history to refuse United Nations election inspectors (during the 2002 U.S. election). I set the record for fewest number of press conferences of any President since the advent of television. I set the all-time record for most days on vacation in any one-year period. After taking off the entire month of August, I presided over the worst security failure in U.S. history. I garnered the most sympathy for the U.S. after the World Trade Center attacks and less than a year later made the U.S. the most hated country in the world, the largest failure of diplomacy in world history. I have set the all-time record for most people worldwide to simultaneously protest me in public venues (15 million people), shattering the record for protest against any person in the history of mankind. I am the first President in U.S. history to order an unprovoked, pre-emptive attack and the military occupation of a sovereign nation. I did so against the will of the United Nations, the majority of U.S. citizens, and the world community. I have cut health care benefits for war veterans and support a cut in duty benefits for active duty troops and their families -- in war time. In my State of the Union Address, I lied about our reasons for attacking Iraq, then blamed the lies on our British friends. I am the first President in history to have a majority of Europeans (71%) view my presidency as the biggest threat to world peace and security. I am supporting development of a nuclear "Tactical Bunker Buster," a WMD. I have so far failed to fulfill my pledge to bring Osama Bin Laden to justice. RECORDS AND REFERENCES: All records of my tenure as governor of Texas are now in my father's library, sealed and unavailable for public view. All records of SEC investigations into my insider trading and my bankrupt companies are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view. All records or minutes from meetings that I, or my Vice-President, attended regarding public energy policy are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public review. PLEASE CONSIDER MY EXPERIENCE WHEN VOTING IN 2004. PLEASE SEND THIS TO EVERY VOTER YOU KNOW. Thank you for your support, and remember it is unpatriotic of you to question your government in time of crisis. |

I don't have a favorite Democratic contender. I am not aligned with any New World Order candidate from either party. President Served Friday With Personal 9-11 RICO Complaint: On Friday, Philip J.
