Jean:

Yes. There is a Newcomers' Club. Check the links on the MOL Home Page to see if a link for the Newcomers' Club is posted there. If not, you should be able to get contact information from the Maplewood Memorial Library Home Page (Look for the listing of Community Organizations).

There are many other clubs and service organizations in town. Post your interests and someone in the know will be sure to reply.

Welcome to Maplewood.

Joan, thanks for the recommendation.

As the new president of the Newcomers Club I'd like to invite everyone here to the first meeting of our 2005/6 year. It will be on Wednesday September 7th at 7:45pm at Morrow Memorial Church. There is more information here under the "Arts and Entertainment" section.

Our website is www.somnewcomers.com

Please feel free to email me if you would like more information on the club. It's a great way to get to know people!

Welcome all!

Karlotta:

I saw your post in Arts and Entertainment and elsewhere on the board regarding the Newcomer's Club. Unfortunately, as several people pointed out, the date(s) and time(s) of the regular meetings were left out. Perhaps you could rectify that.

I am logging on and posting this message to say hello to all the present residents of Maplewood. I am a former resident of Elmwood Ave. and miss the area very much. At the time, I had become friends with a young girl- we were about 10 years old and she has been on my mind from time to time although it would be hopeless to try and ever find her. If anyone out there in computerland reads this and happens to be single, female, and is a Jersey girl, familiar with this area, I would like to hear from you . I am in my late 30's and at smarjan@hotmail.com

Thanks for the reminder Joan. At the risk of "spamming" the message boards with this info, the meeting is at 7:45pm on Wednesday September 7th at Morrow Memorial Church. Further details are now in the other discussion under Arts and Entertainment.

Scully:

Welcome to MOL.

John:

You would be surprised how locatable people are these days. Have you tried a Google search of her name or looking her up in the White Pages? If she remained long enough in SO/M to attend Columbia HS, you may find a listing for her on the Columbia HS Alumni section of MOL.

Good luck.

I am new and wanted to introduce myself. I am a flight attendant and I just moved here with my two beautiful children aged 4 and 5. I am hoping to get to know some new people in the neighbourhood. ( I am from Denmark, but have been in the States for 7 years now)

The most hearty welcome to you Flying Char and your family. May you find this virtual community welcoming. I hope your landing into our little two-town neighborhood is pleasant.

BTW (By the way): I loved the movie Hans Christian Andersen when I was growing up(many moons ago). I mention it only because you are from Denmark. Are you originally from Copenhagen?

Hi Joan and Pizzaz, Thanks for your response to my posting of looking for a Jersey Girl. I never knew her full name or exact Maplewood address but we hung out together in an area of garages that were located directly across from the top of Prospect street in East Orange. If anyone remembers this I hope to hear from you or any other Jersey girl for that matter.

Thanks for the attaboy/girl Pizzaz! The Newcomers Club does indeed provide a great contribution to our community by providing a venue for people to form lasting friendships.

Just to clarify things I, Phil, am a guy. My wife, Karlotta, who has occasionally borrowed my maplewoodonline id, is a woman. She always signs "Karlotta" when she does so.

We've been involved with the Newcomers Club for 6 years. (There is no statute of limitations on being a Newcomer!!) I was on the board for 3 years including the 2001-2002 presidency. Karlotta has now taken up the torch as this years' president.

We beat Bill and Hillary to it!

Welcome to Maplewood (or South Orange) Bkrefugee. I can't help you with your search for driving lessons but I can suggest that you ask the question in the Please Help section of MOL. Start a new thread in that section. I'm sure you'll get a few recommendations that way. Also, make clear it's for you, as opposed to a teenager since some schools/teachers may be better for one than the other.

Again, welcome.

OK, so, we got our notifications/confirmations that we are now registered voters of the Garden State. Where do we go to vote in Maplewood? Do all residents go to one polling place? Do we go to our local grade school? Town Hall? CHS?

These registered voters want to know.

Thanks.

The county board of elections will send you a sample ballot. It will list your polling place.

There are lots of voting locations in Maplewood. Where each person votes depends on the voting district that person resides in.

If you post your voting district or some general information regarding your neighborhood's location, someone reading this thread may be able to provide you with that information.

As Tom wrote, each registered voter receives a sample ballot shortly before the day of the election which includes that voter's election district, polling place and hours the polls will be open as well as the date of the election, the names of the candidates running on each line for each office and a brief description of any issues on the ballot for that election. I most cases, the polling place is within comfortable walking distance of the home of each person who votes there.

"If anyone has any advice please feel free to offer."

Welcome Tawauna,

Do you live here in Maplewood or South Orange as well, or is this just going to be where your business is located? I ask because you might want to check some of the posts about Massage in the "Mostly Maplewood" section of the Message Board. Often what happens in Maplewood, happens soon after in South Orange.

One more thing, do you feel it's really necessary to incorporate (serious inquiries only) into you solicitations?

Good luck and best wishes for success in your new venture.

My name is Lester. I am an investment banker in NYC. My focus is on distressed manufacturing companies. Usually this involves acquiring them out of bankruptcy (dumping the pension liabilities) and then selling off the assets. Business has been good. I have lived in M/W for about 6 years, but I am considering moving to Short Hills since my income has increased substantially in the past few years. I am a native of Texas an a lifelong Republican (one of three in M/W).

Hi Everyone:
I spent the first eight years of my life in Maplewood on Valley St. next to the aprtment buildings then my family moved down the shore. I look at the parking lot that is there now and wonder how three houses fit in that small spot. My elderly aunt is still in Maplewood so I am in town quite often. Just two weeks ago I was driving through and wondered where my childhood best friend was now. If any of you have any idea if Lori Magliaro is in the vicinity can you let me know? The Village is still a great place to walk and hang out. The restaurants great and a friend works at the Irish pub part time.
Have a great day.}
