Just a thought: Is there any way of linking, consolidating and/or merging threads in different parts of the board which are on the same topic? For example: a discussion on the proposed illegal student ordinance spawned at least four discussions that I know of (South Orange Specific, Education, Soapbox and All Politics) and each could have benefited from posts made in the others. |

I'd like to start a new topic about MUSIC. I'm very into a broad range of styles of music (not classical, though) and I spend lots (if not most) of my spare time (what little spare time I have) listneing to, shopping for, ripping, importing, iTunes/iPod arranging, and going to see [LIVE] music. I'd like to hear what other people are listening to, what they enjoy and to learn about new stuff, local band recommendations and share stuff I'm into. I'd also love to hear about peoples' relationships with their CDs, with their iPods, with their stereos and FM radios and feelings about music in general. How might I best do that? I don't see a TOPIC on hobbies, casual interests, etc. within which I could begin such a thread.

For the time being, start it inside the "Arts & Entertainment" section. Go to bottom of the page to find the "Start new conversation" link. |

I think if you click on My Profile at the top of the page, you can edit. If this doesn't work, try posting on Tech Support, where more people may see your question. (and welcome to MOL!) MC |

Maple, I don't drink coffee, so I'm useless there, but try posting in Food, Wine, etc. or in Virtual Cafe for recommendations. My husband likes The Dancing Goat in South Orange, but I don't know whether it's the coffee or the sitting around. Did you move from New England, or just fond of maple? (and welcome!) |

I'm not a coffee drinker myself, but my coffee drinking teenaged daughter likes NetNomads on Springfield Avenue and Sage Cafe in the Village. I love NetNomads for other reasons (including the hot chocolate), but I still don't like coffee. Welcome to the community! |

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone. mjc, actually, yes I am from New England, Vermont to be exact! Didn't think anyone would get that. Also, I am actually in Maplewood, do you know of any around my area? I live near the train station. Coffeeluver, looks like you're new as well, and I would bet with a name like that you would know of at least one good spot, where do you get your coffee? |

A big MOL gathering is happening tomorrow night for the first time in a long time. It's at Bunny's in South Orange. My wife and I will be there. People tell me I look like my pictures, so you can spot me. Welcome to town, Maple Sugar and CoffeeLuver. I like NetNomads, not just for the coffee, but the owner is a heck of a lot of fun to talk to. She's a great woman and full of good ideas. |

Oh, and don't forget about Here's 2 The Arts! How could I have forgotten? They're on Baker St in the heart of beautiful downtown Maplewood. The folks there are just great, too. |

Speaking of New England....I'd like to attend the event tonight but, I'm spending a week or so in OLDE England...down in Salisbury, as a matter of fact. Went yesterday to see some lovely henges. And toured the fabulous Salisbury Cathedral today. Off to London tomorrow and back to lovely New Jersey on Monday. Visiting in-laws! What fun!

How about creating a section / thread solely dedicated to the topic of commuting i.e. To/From Maplewood and NYC ...other locations in NJ ...Jitney Service ...Bus etc. As a new member and soon to be resident of Maplewood, it would be REALLY helpful if there were a section dedicated to Commuting where one can read the service options. Also this may reduce the number of "Commuting Help" questions from newbie'e like myself, which I am sure long time members of MOL wouldn't mind. Since I had spent a good chunk of time over this past weekend searching the web and MOL threads on all topics related to commuting. It would have made it much easier for me to go to one location and read up all the options. Btw, as a new member I am throughly impressed by this online forum - I've never come across a forum that has been this alive.

Dave/Jamie: Is it possible to enable the editing of new thread titles? The way things stand now, if there is a type-o in a thread title, there is no way for the originator of the thread to fix it. |

I am considering moving to Maplewood. Where would I ask general questions about the neighborhood? Could there be a new section created called "Moving to Maplewood" which could more directly encourage interchange between current residents and potential new residents like myself? |

Hi, Michael. Welcome to MOL! The "Please help" section works for all types of questions. There's someone who is also house shopping in Maplewood. His thread is called Still Interested. Also, consider South Orange. The two towns used to be one town and are still one school district. They are very similar. When we were house shopping two years ago, we didn't have a preference of one town over the other. We landed in Maplewood.

Would love the following sections: Lost & Found -- consolidate all those " I found a ferret, I lost my dog" into one place. Health/Medical/Fitness -- All those " I need a new doctor" threads or "I need input about these docs" in one place... |

i've written before, but i can not understand why there isn't a kids section on maplewood online. is it really more important to have a recipes section? i think it would really be a great service for parents in our town. |

Are you talking about one where kids participate or one where parents talk about issues of raising kids? It's not as if we're trading one for another, i.e. the recipes for kids sections.

The Virtual Cafe is becoming choaked with game threads that have taken over from the general conversation threads that used to make that section of the board so special. Isn't it time to create a separate "games" section? |

This is something to consider. Specifically, what do you consider to fit into the "games" section? Word association games? That type of topic? |

Word association type games surely. Also the various interview the next person/question chain/name the photo/ what kind of dog are you, etc. type threads. I would also add the "I'm bored today do you have (or here is) a link to an on-line game type of thread. |

Virtual sites tend to include games as a component within itself. If you google virtual you'll understand what I mean. It appears to me that some other underlying interest motivates this suggestion? It's never been an issue before, why now? |
