Hi, Bob. Welcome to town! It's so exciting -- an terrifying! -- buying your first house, isn't it? For what it's worth, I think you made an excellent choice in buying here -- we moved in almost three years ago and couldn't imagine living anywhere else. Good luck with the move, and the marriage . . . |

Hello, My name is Shari and I moved to South Orange with my husband Terry and 2-year-old son, Caleb. We just purchased a home in South Orange near Seton Hall. We're a little overwhelmed about dealing with our home as we're new homeowners and we bought a very old house that needs lots of repairs. But overall, the area seems pleasant enough and our neighbors are very nice. We just moved from Brooklyn, NY, three weeks ago and we're not used to saying more than an obligatory "hello" to the folks next door so it's a welcome change to actually talk to other people and get to know them. In fact, we're very interested in making friends and establishing roots in the area. We'll be sure to check out the newcomers meeting next week. Shari |

Hi Shari, Welcome. You'll probably find the Home Fix-it section helpful with those repairs. |

Shari, Come say hi at the South Orange Library. Call us (973-762-0230) if you need directions or info. If you haven't brought Caleb to storytime yet, check it out. It's a great place for him (and you) to meet other families and small children. Welcome to the neighborhood. Nancy |

Shari: Welcome to our virtual and bricks and mortar communities. You will find a lot of former Brooklynites here - myself included. What part of Brooklyn are you from? |

I own a wild turkey, his name is Soda. He has a madness about him, but was told by a reputable veterinarian to feed him hamburgers. He loves McD's, the franchises that serve the burgers with both ketchup and mustard. I wonder though if it's really any good for him. He spends most of the day, running in cirles and howling COC A DOODLE DOO. Do you, as new members of MOL, know what I could do to settle this poor old bird. |

1. Introduce him to the wild turkey family that lives in the Reservation. They can throw their wild turkey burger parties up there. 2. Bring him to the annual turkey collection at the TSTI parking lot. 3. Teach him to drive one of the ice cream trucks that play turkey in the straw. Get him a straw cushion to sit in as he drives around town. |

Tom: Will that serve Soda right? I don't think so. If the problem with Soda is that he prefers MacDonald's burgers to Bunnies', then perhaps Pizzaz should consider changing his/her burger recipe (at least where Soda is concerned). |

Hello MOL, My wife and I just bought a house very close to the town. We moved from Flemington, NJ and have only been married since October last year. We're looking forward to raising kids in Maplewood. I'm from South Africa (my wife's from NJ), so was also eagar to find out whether or not there are any other South Africans on this message board, or in the community. Take care. Troy & Leslie |

Troy and Leslie: Welcome to Maplewood. Come to the Memorial Day Parade tomorrow morning (it should be passing along Maplewood Avenue by 9:15 or so). See hundreds (even thousands) of your neighbors and soon to become friends join together to give thanks to the departed servicemen and women who enabled us to continue our special way of life. You will see what a wonderfully diverse town we are and yet how united we have become. Come to Town Hall immediately after the parade for an inspirational memorial ceremony. Cross the park for the unique rubber duck races which follow the ceremony. Get to know your new home. |

Hello and welcome! Yes, Reverend Lee and his wife Bonnie are from SA. They have drawn a pretty big group of others from SA to Morrow Methodist Church (Ridgewood and Baker in Maplewood). Please come sometime to a service and meet our friendly congregation. Warm weather thins our Sunday AM crowd a little, but we have a good time chatting on the lawn with lemonade and cookies after the service. Please come! |
