Welcome Mr.Big Poppa. To answer your question, the preferred term of address for Maplewood citizens is Maplewoodians. Don't ask me why. Perhaps someone else reading this knows the origin of the term.

Mr. Big Poppa, residents of South Orange are known as Villagers. The history of the two-towns will become known to you, shortly. At times, Maplewoodians are known as living in "the Hood" and Villagers are referred to as Orangutans. All in jest, welcome again to MOL.

"...so I'm looking forward to helping making the schools even better."

Hey Big Guy! Welcome... Listen, I like your optimism. So how do you plan to do this?

ajc, good question....to which I don't have a specific answer. I would like to get involved in the school system (attending school board meetings, etc), but I'm not yet up to speed on the Maplewood politics. I'm sure there will be many people on this board who would love to educate me on that!

"I'm sure there will be many people on this board who would love to educate me on that!"

You got that right! Come to the next Township Committee Meeting tomorrow night. Give you name to Liz Fritzen, Township Clerk, and she will let the right people know that you want to get involved... Good luck.

The Big Cigar, Mr Poopa smoking in public is not viewed favorably by many who post to this Board. Perhaps you can share with us the pleasure you experience with the big C. Please, don't go APE on us; but, it is to the benefit of this board that we offer varying opinions.

It's a cartoon monkey firing up a stogie (unless it's a blunt?).
Lighten up (pun intended)!

Dear inquisitors,

Which would be preferred....a blunt or a cigar?

A blunt would make me seem quite avant garde, albeit spacy. A cigar would make me appear like Tony Soprano, oafish but powerful.

Hi,
My husband, our little girl of 5 and I moved to South Orange two months ago from (no, not Brooklyn!) the west side of Manhattan. We like it here. And while when we moved in we thought that this small community was a little dormant compared to Manhattan, we slowly find that it's a very alert, active, diverse and spirited community, offering us a lot of outlets to spend our energies. Looking forward to a nice life here.

Sitoyan,

Welcome and I know you'll love it here. We moved to So.from RSD and 106th (okay so it was 19 years ago.)
Make sure you check out the Public Library. We have oodles of activities for your daughter and wonderful reading groups, books, cd's and dvd's for the grownups in your family.
If you need any help or advice, just ask! When you visit the library, stop in and say hi to me in adult services.
Nancy
