Chxflx: Both Maplewood and South Orange Libraries have needlework groups that include knitting/crochet. There is also a group that meets Saturday mornings at the Maplewood train station. Hope this helps. Welcome back to our community. Rama: Try posting your request in the Home Fixit section of the board. You may also find some recommendations there which you can use. Welcome to Maplewood.

Rama, congratulations and welcome. You can also do a search of the archives in "Home Fix-It." I know for a fact there were at least two threads in the last couple of months about fixing falling-down garages (a common Maplewood phenomenon) because I posted in them. FWIW, my recommendation: Bob Hume. Check the aforementioned threads for details and pictures! |

Hi everyone. I'm new here, too. I've been reading for a while, but never posted on this BBS before. I'm in Maplewood. I guess me and Millie are the newbies. |

It's a place where one can relax and participate in discussions covering everything or almost everything you'd want to know about this town we call home. Besides, we are.... What do you say, Joan? BTW: Have a nice holiday weekend, you've earned it! |

Millie: I'm also from Maplewood and ,yes, I do enjoy this site. Right now many of my posts are devoted to making people aware of the Memorial Day Parade which is being held this coming Monday beginning at 9 AM. You can find information regarding the parade route and the ceremony which follows in today's Tickets Section of the Star Ledger, the Maplewood column in this week's News Record, kiosks on Springfield Avenue, shop windows on Maplewood Avenue and in its own MOL thread in the Mostly Maplewood section of this board. I hope to see you at the parade and ceremony. It's a great way to experience one of the many good things about our town, meet some of your new neighbors and honor the members of the armed forces past and present. |

Hello SO/M, moved to SO on May 1 from Bergen County and what a great move it has been, really enjoying it here. Someone clued me into this board and it's quite active! Here are my first two questions... I'm a swimmer, post about 3-5 miles a week. Where is there a decent-sized pool around here? Also, is there a good yoga studio or classes someone can recommend? I particularly like Power and Ashtanga yoga... thanks everyone! |

Lisa, Welcome! Stop by the South Orange Library and say hi, (and get a library card)! Pools - The town pool ($15 a year per person for your recreation badge) opens in 2 weeks. They have early bird swim and laps lanes for "serious" swimmers. The JCC in West Orange on Northfield Ave. has an olympic sized indoor pool I believe. Don't know the membership costs, but it's fairly close. There is also a Y is Summit but that's a schlep from S.O. Yoga advice I'll leave for another poster, but once again, Welcome to South Orange |

The New York Sports Club in Livingston has an indoor pool. Not a far shlep from South Orange at all. As a kid, I used the JCC facility as well. Either one will allow for year round use. In addition, SHU has an Olympic size pool. I'm not sure if a resident can gain access to it. I believe it remains an issue to be addressed for the benefit of the residents by the VLC, "Village Liaison Committee". |

Welcome, Lisa! Please visit the "Please Help" section of the board. It's very valuable. There's a new yoga center opening on Springfield Ave in Maplewood, at about Yale St. It's "coming soon." No, really. My wife will be offering Polarity Therapy and Cranial Sacral therapy there. |

Lisa Welcome to South Orange! The Summit Y doesn't take that long to get to. If you join a Y, you can get a family membership. The JCC is nice too; but they are doing construction so the traffic around the JCC is kind of a mess right now. |

Hey everyone! Thanks for so many responses, that's great, I will check out all the Y's as well as JCC, not to mention the South Orange pool... I'm assuming that is outdoors, which is why it's open only for the summer. I used to swim in a 50yd outdoor pool Lower East Side NYC, what a great thing to swim outside, even when it's raining! Will def stop by the library too & say hi. And hopefully this yoga center will open! Nice to *meet* everyone & see you on the boards. -Lisa |

Hi All Nice to join the message board. I heard that there were alot of British people in Maplewood. Some that I know of. However, I'd just like to make people aware of where we can get our British food. I was so happy to find The London Food Company in Montclair NJ in 2003. Please check them out!! Also on Saturday 11th June an English musician called Harvey Moon is to do a solo performance outside The London Food Company for the Montclair sidewalk sale between 1-4 pm. They also have all the old sweeties that you used to eat as a kid. Like black jacks and fruit salads. Anyone liked to come down? A new Uk newspaper has also been published for British people in America called UK Today. Its a nice read good entertainment and good sports FREE copies are also available at The london food company or email contactuktoday.com Thanks

I thoght I would just say hello to all current and former residents of Maplewood which remains my favorite place to have once resided in the 50's thru the 70's. Is anyone currently living in the Elmwood Ave. area? I am most curious as to what the area is now like and what changes have taken place. |

Welcome. I suggest you try your question in the "please help" section. I live two blocks from Elmwood, on Plymouth Ave, but I've only been here two years, so I can't describe changes since the 70's. |

John: The neighborhood hasn't really changed any but with the exception of the seniors center on the corner of Boyden and Elmwood which has expanded with multiple new units developed on their property. NJ Transit or TNJ (as it use to be refered to) underwent a facility renovation to the administrative offices and the Hilton garage bus depot. They also added a new paking deck facility to accomodate their needs. The neighborthood continues as a lovely area with well maintained single family homes. -As for my friend Tom, I think he needs a change of hats. |

Hello. As you can see from the number of posts I have made, technically I am not a new poster. I first met Dave on September 11, 2001, and at that time, became aware of Maplewood On Line. I registered some time after that and made a few posts. Then my life got really busy and I forgot about the forum. When the South Orange elections were taking place, I checked back in to see who, what, etc. I’ve been lurking ever since and want to participate, so … Hello. |
