Hi, there! I'm new to the message board, although not so new to South Orange (almost 3 years here). I've started a petition at
http://www.ipetitions.com/campaigns/WestMontroseTrafficLight

with the intent of getting a traffic light installed at the corner of West Montrose Avenue and Clark Street in South Orange. Check out the petition and please sign it if this matter concerns you as much as it does me.

I look forward to getting to new my e-neighbors!

Wow, a welcoming committee! Hi. I hope I didn't break protocol by posting in the Millburn thread first. Looked at living there, but chose South Orange. Anyway, I'm glad to be here!

Welcome Andree and Diastole.

Andree: Try posting that link in the South Orange Specific section of the board. It will get more attention and discussion there.

Great forum. It's encouraging to see a place like this for people in the community - especially considering I'll be moving to SO within a couple of weeks. So what's up everyone!!

You look to be flying down upon our village domain, good luck and welcome to MOL.

PS: Where are you moving from and what attracted you to these hills?

Welcome to MOL! Try to make one of the concerts on Wednesday night in July. It's at Floods Hill across the street from the duck pond. Enjoy!

I would be happy to land here but there are too many trees and powerlines in the way. Maybe there will be a bunny nearby to pad my landing...j/k.

It looks like there are fewer concerts offered toward the end of summer. I was really hoping to hit some of them!

What's the attraction to SO?...you ask. Perhaps the convenience to the city, proximity to family, and I get the sense that this is a town with an agenda. And there you have it.

Having once lived in Maplewood on Elmwood Ave., I have many fond memories of the area including dining at two particular restaurants in the area. Does anybody recall where either the Porter-house or the top of the Mountain were located?

Porter House... /// ??? No. Which town was it in?

The Top referred to Grunnings on the Top where we currently have an apartment complex. The Top was my favorite to visit, so many years ago.

Greetings Pizzaz, Thanks for refreshing my memory concerning the Top of the Mountain. As much as I can remember, the Porterhouse was about a 35 to 40 minute drive leaving East Orange but I have no idea in what direction. Great steaks served by male porters dressed in white coatntail dinner jackets. Also. concerning the Top of the Mountain- wasn't there a small airport right outside where planes could taxi right up to the restaurant?

Good luck with the move! I cannot imagine the planning that must go into a relocation of that distance.

Thank you So Refugee,

we do not know what school the kids will go to, but soon.
It would be nice of you if we could get in contact so Emily would meet a child of her age allready via E-mail.

Here is our e-mailadress joanne_emily_dave@yahoo.com

By the way do know a soccer-team for my daughter Jo-Anne.
Emily is a real girl and likes to play with her dolls and listen to music.
Dave likes to ride his bike and plays with cars
and is easy going.

Town soccer sign-ups just closed recently. Call or go by the South Orange Recreation Department at Baird Center as soon as you get here, and see if they still have spaces on one of the teams for you. I think that there is also a program (Cougar Kickers?) through Maplewood that she might be able to join.

Keep using this board for all of the advice that you need. Note however, that you will probably get broader readership if you take your requests over to the Please Help section!

I have spent most of my 30 years in Maplewood and South Orange (in that order) and now live right over the border, but still have a lot to say about my towns... Look forward to getting to know all of you!

Supporters are those of us who put money in the PayPal electronic tip jar last December (or sent it in via snail mail). Citizens are the rest of the crowd!

Note that Dave and Jamie only set this up after many of us said that we would like to give them some financial thanks for the forum they provide. It felt silly to tip the trash guy, the mailman, etc., but to give nothing to these guys.

Hey just moved this past month to Maplewood. Trying to get situated in the town etc. Can someone give me guidance on the jitney service to the station? I live up on Oberlin Street and have been walking everday to the station. In the weather it is not so bad but when it gets colder I wont enjoy it.

Welcome to MOL, Jean. I attempted to post a direct link to the jitney and parking services off the Maplewood Township website. Unfortunately it takes you only to the main page. On the main page go to departments and services. I noticed the jitney and parking services page doesn't provide for a schedule of routes, but it does reference a phone number for you to call for more information. Good Luck!

Welcome to town!

They are scheduled to (more or less) coincide with the NJ Transit trains, although they do not hold very long (if at all) for delays, from what I understand. I know that there is a stop near Yale St on Tuscan Road. There's probably also a stop closer to you (maybe you've already spotted the signs for them) ... you buy the passes at Town Hall and I'm sure that they would also have route maps, schedules, etc.

Thanks Pizzaz and Sac-

I appreciate the information. My husband and I love Maplewood and are so happy that we are now apart of the whole suburban thing. We just moved from Bay Ridge, Brooklyn so feeling a little homesick for some good pizza but loving Maplewood regardless. Is there a new comers club or anything here?
