it takes a State of the Union address to get people talking about watching the Knicks game tonight. this space for rent...all reasonable offers considered.

Mr. Zona - with all due respect, the only reason to watch the Knicks tonight is to see if Kobe Bryant can best his 81 points from the other day, and score 100. Nukular!!!

Kobe has an unfair advantage playing 1 on 5 against the Knicks. But the president is going to say in his speech Americans are addicted to oil and we need to develop new technologies and Kobe said he is embarrassed by all the attention his 81 point game has gotten...tough call to see who to watch now taking those sincere comments into consideration. Guess its going to be E! True Hollywood Story tonight for some reality. this space for rent...all reasonable offers considered.

From the article that Cjc linked to - Quote:Bay Area Congresswoman Lynn Woosley gave anti-war activist a gallery pass late Tuesday, just hours before the planned State of the Union speech. Sheehan was in Washington to protest the president during his national address, but then came word she was invited to see the speech live. A spokesman for Sheehan says she decided to accept the invitation two hours prior to the speech. The spokesman also said that Sheehan will be respectful and listen to the address because she is a guest of a member of congress.
So, does your " " indicate that you laugh at someone who would be respectful when listening to the President, even if she believes that he needlessly caused the death of her son? [Edited to add] The only channel on which to watch the SOTU address is, of course, FoxNews. They were just obsessing over Cindy Sheehan being somewhere in the audience. What a bunch of clowns. Nukular!!!

I will lay odds that among the first three paragraphs of the pres's speechifying, we will hear that democracy is on the march in the middle east but democracy is hard when those terrorists hate us for our freedoms. |

I think Tom won the 9/11 over/under. [Edited to add] The President has used the phrase "radical Islam" several times now. His speech has not been about the U.S., but about the fears that he has tried to provoke. Nukular!!!

Nohero -- I'm laughing because Cindy Sheehan is a wacko that won't go away, and I hope she remains tied around the necks of Bush's opposition who once embraced her as their savior. The representative that gave her the pass was an idiot too.

Those costs are nothing. What's killing us are entitlements paid for by the children of those sucking on the government teat for their existence while demanding more and not offering one 'thank you' when the get it. The only thing wrong with the Medicare Drug Bill is the Palm Beach type confusion it sowed. But no one objects to increasing the obligations of a system that is already underfunded. Democrats would have spent the money that wasn't there, and the saddest part is Republicans beat them to it. Now THAT is crap. |

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Police at the U.S. Capitol arrested anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan on Tuesday, shortly before President Bush was to give his annual State of the Union speech, a police spokeswoman said.

cjc, Cindy Sheehan is just ...Cindy Sheehan. She's not the albatross that Rush et al would make her. Another snoozer address, I counted 3 "Nukulars". Good call on the 9/11 over/under. My house was in hysterics. And when is a president going to have the guts to NOT close with "...and may God bless America."? |

if he had an ounce of class... Quote:Also in the audience tonight as an honored guest of one of our congresspeople is Mrs. Cindy Sheehan. Mrs. Sheehan and I disagree on many things, but I honor her loss and respect her right, and the right of all Americans, to speak their mind.
Which of course he doesn't (class, honor or respect). But wouldn't THAT go a long way towards defusing things? |

What wasn't said, was interesting. The failure of the administration to move its Social Security reforms off the dime, as an example. The failure to secure our southern borders, for another. The failure to inspire confidence that FEMA and DHS are up to the critical jobs that we expect them to perform. The administration says tonight that it wants to offer health savings accounts to the poor and low-wage segment of society so that they can have the same health benefits as those who work for big corporations. That comment neglects to mention that big corporations are cutting the health benefits they provide to employees, shifting more and more of the cost of health benefits on employees whose salaries are not keeping pace with the cost of living. The end result will be that everyone will have the same screwed up health care costs, but the health savings accounts will be run through banks and brokerages which will earn commissions and administrative fees that will eat into the accounts. The president said that the economy is growing and powerful but failed to note that the buying power of the average working family has declined by 11% since 2000. Just a few of the nuggets that we can wash, shine, and put into our safe deposit boxes. |

And what exactly would the tax savings be for these poor and low-wage people? What tax bracket are they in again? Those savings plans, if they're structured like the ones offered to me at my last jobs, were a use-it-or-lose-it deal, where you put the money aside pre-tax, but then if you didn't use all of it by the year-end cut off you forfeited it. Great deal if you're living hand-to-mouth and don't know what your expenses might be. Oh, and how's that trip to Mars coming? |
