Ed, I think what you said is awful and shameful. Her son volunteered, so what does that mean? That it was less of a tragedy? Or that his death is more useful to the country? Or that mother should have accepted it as OK? No, I think that the fact that you consider that to be a good argument means that you do not feel for her as a mother. You want her to feel differently, which means you do not empathize with her. Shame on you for telling the mother of a dead son to feel differently.

What is the process for getting a ticket, and why do you think that process failed?

Why do you feel the shirt denigrates the president? It is a statement that she is angry at him. It does not say what the president is. Furthermore, free speech is free speech, which allows her to wear statements on her shirt. Do you really not understand what free speech entitles us to or where or when it may be practiced?

I am dismayed and disgusted by your comments. You are displaying narrow and shallow thinking, but worse, it is also discompassionate.

I'm really sorry to read Ed's post. Don't know the man but from his posts he seems decent and he obviously has raised children who think for themselves.

Unless you've experienced the loss of a child, I don't think you can honestly judge the poor womans actions. Who cares if her son volunteered?, does that mean she's not allow to publically grieve or show disapproval for a war that we didn't need to fight?, not very American of you Ed.

Our President and VP were eligible and able to fight in Viet Nam, a war they both supported. Both of them avoided getting their hands dirty using family connections and power. These two Cowards (and don't go on about how W served honorably, save it for someone who cares-or can't think)now are sending enlisted Americans to die for nothing.

And what happens when they reinstate the draft and come for your sons and daughters ?. Think about this before criticizing this poor womans plight with heartless technicalities.

War Bad
Bush make War
Bush Bad

or

War Bad but sometimes necessary.
Bush go to War against terrorists
Bush Defends Country and liberates others from tyranny of brutal mass murderer.
People Die in War
War still bad but unfortunately still sometimes necessary.

I have never seen such a successful mass brainwashing as the one executed by the current administration. Sad state of affairs for our country, but at least they "look" respectable.

The point is that the First Lady was speaking to a group of invited Republican guests and that one lone protester was an interloper. She snuck into our meeting under false pretenses. With my own ears I hear her shout "Your husband murdered my son". That made me fear what she might do next, like try to harm the First Lady or any of us. She was not only uninvited, and rude, but she interrupted my ability to hear Laura Bush speak. She distracted the (willing) media on site - who were invited to cover our event - who then interrupted us by racing across the floor with their cameras and entourages. This woman should never had gotten in (which points to a lapse of security that I will discuss with Joe Kyrillos our Chairman). She should have been escorted out immediately and not allowed to linger inside the hall, and then inside the lobby, and then in the parking lot. If she wanted to protest out event, she should have been in the designated area next to the firehouse. Her goal was to make a scene and get arrested. Security should have accomodated her much more quickly. This has nothing to do with free speech. And if it does it has to do with my right to hear the first lady speak. Whatever her feelings might be about her son, she had no right to interrupt our event. She deserved to be arrested and I am glad that she was.

I'm not clear how your right to hear supercedes her right to speak, but I'm not a lawyer.

1- She shouldn't have gotten in, but that's an internal RNC issue.

2- Once she was in, she had a right to her free speech.

3- Once she created a disturbance, she should have been escorted off the premises.

I still don't understand what she could have been charged with. If she had a ticket, I would assume that in the eyes of the law, she was an invited guest.

It's always sad when someone (the mother) tries to introduce a little reality to a situation where none exists.

I keep seing a mental image of the mother being handcuffed, stuffed in the back of a police car, driven off to jail, a very long talk with the Secret Service and the Bushies shouting "four more years, four more years" and
"he volunteered". This is not very pleasent and actually is down right ugly.

What happened to the obligation of the children of the elite to serve? Both Bush's father and grandfather served in WWII and WWI respectively. Both of Roosevelt's sons served during WWII and were very much in harms way. LBJ's son in law served in the Marines in Vietnam. McCain served in combat while his father was CIC Pacific during the same war. I believe that there is only one, yes one, child of a member of Congress in the military. Jesh.

"It's always sad when someone (the mother) tries to introduce a little reality to a situation where none exists. "

Bavo. Quote of the year. What could be more important: a campaign stop or a reminder that war destroys families forever?
