If the USA is going to send a team that's only going to win one game in the qualifying tournament, perhaps we should send a non-NHL team over there to give it a try, like in pre "dream team" days. I'm sure a team like that would bust their azzes, and it would probably generate more interest that the current collection of stiffs is. |

The problem is it isn't a "team" - its a collection of fantastic players who haven't had the opportunity to learn to work together. The NHL helped that by scheduling games on Sunday and the teams were to start on Tuesday. Not smart. I would love to see a real US men's ice hockey team, like the women have. Sure, "big names" draw some fans (like my son who is cheering whole-heartedly for Canada since he is a die-hard Martin Brodeur fan) but I miss the team spirit. Many guys from Boston U were on the pre-NHL Olympic teams while I was there and the stories they told were amazing of getting to know the other players and the pride in representing their country. Let the NHL players get their $$ an let's get a real team for the next Olympics. |

I'll never forget the 1980 USA hockey team and their victory! That was awesome. It's totally boring now. |

I'm in total agreement with hismom. While I wouldn't be opposed to going back to non-NHL rosters, it isn't the players. You don't have to look any further than Canada getting shut out 3 times for proof of that. All the NHL players had only a few days, including a long flight, to change from playing in their NHL teams systems to a completely different strategy, rink size, rules, linemates, ect. Like I said, I would be in favor of them going back to non-NHL rosters but I think that a lot of people who don't follow hockey might expect things to come too easy for the team the USA would put on the ice. If you ask me the story of this years mens Olympic hockey is Switzerland whose victories over the Czech's and Canada were the biggest wins EVER for their country. |
