It wasn't an "underhanded smear tactic", and it's unfortunate you took it as such. I've never had the opportunity to travel to the Dakotas, either. I've lived in South Orange for 22 years. I do not have any children, but grew up in the MSO school system (Marshall, Jefferson, SOMS, CHS), and never opted out for private school. What grades are your children in? And again, where does your hostility come from? |

(Very, Very long sigh. . . ) Hostility? I point out the uncomfortable truth about CHS and I'm hostile? Hostile to what, your rose-tinted vision of a perfect high school where all is well, the AA's perform as well as the whites, and the test scores are in the stratosphere? And the roof doen't leak? I would love to live in that world. But we don't. |

When I went to school there, people hid guns in their lockers, and the federal govt. was forced to intercede to stop the violence. Wow JB! They did this during the late 60's – early 70's? James Brown CHS. Class of 71 |

First of all Jimmy Brown you are nothing but a kid who likes to hear himself type. You gave yourself away in one of your posts.. didn't your momma teach you to be quiet when adults talk!!! Chris: May I suggest you contact your childrens guidance counselors because I do also have two kids in the school system (both CHS). They have lots of friends and sometimes I have six or seven of them sleeping over. They all love CHS and they are good kids. They are not rude, they are not bullies, they are not jocks or one of the super popular kids. They are the average male and female students who have gotten in trouble and done good. Both are in some AP (advanced proficiency) classes and both know that the high school social life has always been difficult. Nothing to do with the school but more with the age of the students |

Hey folks, Don't overlook another new, important presence in SOMA. All us NYers with two year olds that moved in over the last few years. I heard mixed things about CHS, but compared to the schools in Brooklyn, the former is the apple of my eye. We are eyeing Columbia and keeping an eye on it because one of these days our kids will be going there. We got 10 years to fix any problems needing addressing... -SLK |

BTW As to James Brown, when the poster with this same name was posting about the troubles he was having over on Jacoby Street I thought to myself this can't be a real person. But, there really was a James Brown on Jacoby Street in the phonebook. Might not be anymore though. |

From the CHS HSA website: "The HSA has been advised that Mrs. Pollack is currently taking some personal leave, and that while she is out the school is being covered for administrative purposes by the three assistant principals. We further understand that Jim Memoli, Jim Corino and Dr. Horoschak interact regularly with the CHS leadership team, which includes the assistant principals, 6-8 supervisors, k-12 directors and deans. We encourage parents who have questions to direct them to the CHS front office or to Dr. Horoschak's office." |

There is a guy on jacoby, me- things have improved dramatically on my block since I was last on Maplewoodonline. My family is safer, the number of incidents is way down, the police have made at least one important arrest of someone they wanted for along time, they got him, drunk late night at Seth Boyden school with a gravity knife. To anyone who helped make things better by calling the cops, and watching what goes on, I thank you. The success on my street shows that people can work together for a decent neighborhood. It isn't just better for me and mine , it's better for everybody. I took a world of abuse for stating both the obvious, and the un PC TRUTH, but it is and was a fair trade, and I'd do it again! I wanted the town to get serious about crime, and gangs, and uncivil out of control behavior, and to a large extent it has. I also wanted a record number of people to show at the special town meeting about crime, and there were so many people there, they spilled out of the meeting room and filled the lobby. That told the people we elected how serious we are. I wrote in again both to Maplewoodonline and the News Record about Ms Pollack because she has turned CHS around, and I am sick to death of the race card being thrown at her at every opportunity. How will we ever get along if that's the best we can do. Bill Cosby and Charles Barklay feel this way and are openly vocal about it. There is and will always be enough AL SHARPTONS to go around. You know, you stepped on my shoe your'e a racist, or you dissagree with me - your'e a racist, or you criticiced me , you must be a racist. ENOUGH ALREADY! do you want to fix things or perpetuate them? In the 60s and 70s if you dissagreed with the war in VIET NAM you were a commie! Calling names is easy. Fixing our town, our schools, our neighborhoods is hard! I am sure this post- meant only to be a non offensive statement of my view will bring out the racist ramblings of the AL SHARPTON'S on this site. Ask yourself when you read their smartass, glib, s**t, when was the last time you heard anything remotely intelligent from these people- right BIG POOBA? |

I told you JB was crazy... Crazy like a fox! JB, you'd be surprised how much you and the "Al Sharptons" have in common. Just like you use a loud voice and a platform like MOL to get such great numbers and attention to the issues on and near Jacoby St., the "Al Sharptons" do the same thing to bring attention to their causes. Since I was at that Town Hall meeting, as well as a poster on your thread re: Jacoby St., I saw the results you produced. While I disagree with you on Ms. Pollack, I do believe we're looking for the same end result for our town. |

I will say it again I don't think that Ms. Pollacks remarks were meant to be racist. However someone in her position is expected to think certain statements through before they are made. Frankly, in the private industrie she would have been fired for alot of comments that you just cannot make. ms. Pollak would have been considered a legal liabilty. Generalizing can be perceived as racism if it is directed at a small group of kids from the same country with the same skin color. If Ms. Pollak is willing to put them all in a pot in public in front of other students and makes a pretty derogatory remark about their home country then she, out of all people, should know that this is no longer acceptable. I am not hypersensitive and think the racism card is totally overplayed but I do have to say that a Principal of a highschool should be more aware of how statments can be perceived. These are students who are highly volatile not because of their race, intellect or origin but because they are teenagers and unsure of their place in society. They are that much more sensitive to statements that should have been thought through. It seems to me that the more objections Ms. Pollak received the more inappropriate statemtents she made. Yes I can imagine the stress she is under and actually do feel for her because these kids are at an age were they will live for nailing an adult to the cross just to prove a point but her reaction to certain events was not befitting her position. You can not get intimidated and take things personal and react on a personal level as a principal of a highschool. |

Dear Archie Bunker, Your problem is you don't know when to stop your bitching, complaining and retaliation when people start agreeing with you and focusing on how to help. There were several people on that Maplewood????? thread that were ready for action, but you alienated them because you kept ranting. They often asked "ok, so what can we do?" and you never came up with solid answers. Be grumpy forever, my friend! It suits you! |

All in the Family" (1971) The show's central character, Archie Bunker, was a working-class family man who held bigoted, conservative views of the world. His viewpoints clash with nearly everyone he comes into contact with especially his liberal son-in-law Mike Stivic (or, as Archie delights in calling him, "Meathead"). The two disagree about nearly everything politics, minorities, sex, religion, economics, war, gun control, crime, free speech, women's rights, morality, philosophy and (so it seemed) life in general. Archie's daughter, Gloria, often (but not always) sided with Mike, while his saintly wife, Edith, was the rock that held the family together. Edith was as friendly, reserved, considerate and open-minded as Archie was bigoted, loud, rude and closed-minded; however, the love and faithfulness between them was undeniable. |

James Brown, from the great many people who showed up at the town meeting, you are welcome. From the many people who demanded, for themselves and for you, for action from the town, you are welcome. I'm glad things are looking up for you. It's good for everyone. And thank you for making a stink. Your timing was good.

hm hm (clearing my throat) and in Ediths voice: "Boy, the way Glen Miller played. Songs that made the Hit Parade. Guys like us, we had it made. Those were the days! Didn't need no welfare state. Everybody pulled his weight Gee, our old LaSalle (a car) ran great. Those were the days! And you knew where you were then! Girls were girls and men were men. Mister, we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again. People seemed to be content. Fifty dollars paid the rent. Freaks were in a circus tent. Those were the days! Take a little Sunday spin, go to watch the Dodgers win. Have yourself a dandy day that cost you under a fin (five dollar bill). Hair was short and skirts were long. Kate Smith really sold a song. I don't know just what went wrong! Those Were the Days!"

James- Don't worry about Big poop. Like many on MOL, he is all wit and nothing else. All in the Family was one of the greatest shows ever. Too bad PC killed it.... As a consolation I downloaded "Those were the Days." The funny tune starts everyone of my ipod mixes. I kid you not. -SLK Wait, did I just read a black man write that blacks can be racist? I thought that was an impossibility. Get ready to be smeared James. Don't worry, I got your back.

Just to clarify for the idiots on the board, All in the Family ended because Jean Stapleton wanted out of her contract to do other things so she wouldn't forever be Edith Bunker. The show went on as "Archies Place" and then ratings drove it out. The "PC" didn't kill it.

If there are any serious people interested in improving our town, instead of being bored by the mindless, insipid, blather of the big POOBA clan, how about a look at the difference between multi-racial peoples living in the same town, and people actually integrating the town. I for one would love to see something other than pathetic juvenile comedy attempts on Maplewoodonline. ORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR IS THAT ALL WE GET? |

You get what you pay for James. If you came here to solve the world's or your town's problems then you will be forever frustrated. Every poster has different reasons for coming here. No one has a monopoly on the use of this board. Some whine, some cheerlead, some rant, some are serious, some are ridiculous, some are interesting, some are boring, but they are all relevant and all have the right to exist. So get over it and move on with your own .... pick any of the above. |
